In 1988, DD, national Broadcaster of India began the telecast of this TV-series named Bharat Ek Khoj. The amazing title track was the Hindi translation of Nāsadīya Sukta नासदीय सूक्त from Rigveda (10:129) by Vasant Dev, & music by Vanraj Bhatia सृष्टि से पहले सत नहीं था. Listen!

I remember falling in love with the word अंतरिक्ष and asking my parents to rename me so. They didn't oblige, but I still think about it sometimes.
Such a great and haunting chant.
12 hour shoot/ edit/mixing studio shifts, early morn audio transfers, late night dubbing with actors.
Coordinating research with historians, vetting final draft script/ dialogues.
Rehearsing-recording the 2 narrators, Om Puri & Roshan ‘Nehru’ Seth.
3 years of my life. 1987-90.

Watching this as a kid, it was the reason I took interest in Skt later on. Wonder why more Skt lit hasn't been interpreted in music this way. With the exception of dhrupad, few examples of such musical re-interpretations come to mind - much fewer matching the genius of this one.

It was the apex of TV serial making in India. In the natural scheme of things, we should have progressed from there. Instead, things just went downhill since then.I doubt if there'll be anything like it ever again.
I remember Salim Ghouse in it...still the best Krishna till date.
