manḍuāḍīhमंडुआडीह is the birth place of famous medieval Bhakti saint Ravidas. Place name suffix -डीह ḍīh (= upland, a village) which is commonly available in various place names in UP, Bihar, Odisha,, Jharkhand, MP etc. is perhaps related to Sanskrit dehī देही (mound, rampart)

As evident in references in Rigveda, these dehī > -Dih sites represent former inhabited settlements which were higher than their neighboring areas & were protected by earthworks or dikes.

Not to forget that various "Dih" bearing sites in the famous Sanchi Buddhist complex in MP, are also locally known as mounds.

@lianghai My point why have another name modeled after the city name Varanasi. The city already has 3 common stations - Varanasi junction, Varanasi City and Kashi. DDU Junction (formerly Mughal Sarai) is already there. Now what's wrong with Manduadih !? Because it sounds rustic !?

@avtansa मंडुआ/मड़ुवा (कोद्रव: in Sanskrit) is also grown widely in Uttarakhand and Nepal. Had been a staple food of poor until its nutritional values were discovered, now loved by all. Place names have cultural importance and should not be changed unless there's a strong valid reason.

@avtansa @sudhirsaxena18 About a year back, I spent some time at Manduadih Rail station. Indian railway has developed it into world class. The village Manduadih came in prominence with rail engine factory- Diesel Locomotive Works. In fact the entire area is better known as DLW. Benares could be better
