Sadly, this afternoon we had to take the decision to stop sending alerts by email. But don't worry - we will be continuing to issue alerts via social media and smartphone apps!
After a recent solar flare, an Earthward directed CME has been launched.
@NWSSWPC
are predicting arrival around 15th Feb. UK
#aurora
sightings may be possible if timing and conditions are favourable.
We've seen a sudden (though relatively modest) jump in the solar wind speed and density which suggests the anticipated CME has arrived! Fingers crossed that conditions continue to build for UK
#aurora
this evening.
The AuroraWatch UK
#aurora
alerts remain operational, however, we encourage followers to abide by Government rules and restrictions on unnecessary travel - which includes aurora hunting

Geomagnetic Storm Watches issued by
@NWSSWPC
for 9th - 11th December. May result in
#aurora
sightings from across UK. Timings uncertain and sightings not guaranteed - so keep an eye on our alerts.
We are currently experiencing a moderate geomagnetic storm (G2 on
@NWSSWPC
scales) which is expected to continue into UK night-time. May bring UK
#aurora
sightings! Stayed tuned for updates.
Ever seen a bright purple light in the night sky near Southport? It was spotted last night but it's not
#aurora
- instead it's light pollution from LED lights for tomato plants! More:
A G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm watch for 24-25 October has been issed by
@NWSSWPC
due to the recurrence of a coronal hole high speed stream (fast solar wind). This could mean
#aurora
sightings from the UK, particularly in the north, assuming conditions are right.
Congratulations to all who have captured aurora this evening! Activity died down a little now but may return. Please report sightings to

The effects of last night's solar storm are still being felt. Unfortunately the timing wasn't great for the UK with the strongest of the storm in the early hours. Some minor
#aurora
from the UK but wonderful displays elsewhere (Inc. Canada and New Zealand).
