A moment of silence at Mackey Arena tonight in remembrance of legendary Indiana coach Bob Knight, who passed away at the age of 83.
Nice gesture by Purdue.
We’re barely 24 hours into the off-season, and we’ve already gotten tweets indicating JG and Tamar are all-in and committed to having huge off-seasons in anticipation of expanded roles next season. That’s huge.
Shout out to Zach Edey. I came away from today’s game extremely impressed with him as a player, and this clip shows what he is as a teammate and leader. Respect. Looking forward to the rematch at Mackey.
Braden Smith was asked about his turnover when Purdue was down three points.
Zach Edey took the mic and said every play is big in a game like this and it's on the entire team.
With Bob Knight passing away it’s almost a must to watch his speech where he talks about trying get on Michael Jordan’s ass in the locker room. An absolute classic! RIP
Indiana has won four of its last five, six of its last eight, two on the road, broken losing streaks to Purdue and at Maryland, and won four games by 13 or more points.
As we exit Mike Woodson’s first January, I think it’s okay to feel good about how things are going.

There is nothing more unintentionally hilarious than Purdue fans hopping into IU fan conversations about the
#RobShot
with jokes about IU fans “celebrating regular season wins.”
You’re Purdue. Your entire basketball tradition is based on regular season wins.
Bye, bye.
With three scholarship Hoosiers having announced their intention to move on, and Indiana no longer over the limit, I would like to officially extend invites to Race, Trayce, and X to run it back one more year.
💯
Race Thompson was an outstanding Hoosier. Like TJD, he represented IU so well on and off the court.
He struggled through injuries and a coaching change and more losing than I'm sure he wanted, but he was a quintessential glue guy.
What I love about this is traditions like the candy stripes and no names on the back of the jerseys don't mean anything unless their meaning is passed down from one generation of players to the next. Moments like these are where it happens. Seriously, well done
@VicOladipo
.
Al Durham will leave IU as one of the unlikeliest 1,000 point scorers in school history. There are many factors contributing to this achievement, but none greater that this: he busted his ass to become the best player he could be. Much respect to
@aldurham01
on Senior Day.

The Indiana men's team has won 7 out of 8, is in the top-20, and is getting lots of "Final Four darkhorse" talk from the national media.
And yet ...
Every IU hoops forum is dominated this morning by
#iuwbb
talk. They're that damn good.
What a time to be an IU basketball fan!
Thank you,
@kenzieholmes_
For being one of the best basketball players to ever play at IU, and for being one of the best examples ever of what it means to be a Hoosier.
We’ll all be telling our kids’ kids about you.
Even when it's right and the blow will be softened by a large buyout, it's still tough to see a coach get fired.
Things didn't work out for Archie Miller at Indiana, but not for lack of effort or anything untoward. We wish him and his family well wherever he's coaching next.
Tamar is going to learn a valuable lesson today: he's having an incredible game, doing fantastic things ... and all anyone is going to want to talk about after the game is his daughter winning the halftime race.
Welcome to being a dad. :-)

Trayce Jackson-Davis tonight:
13 PTS | 10 REBS | 4 BLKS
The ONLY players in NBA History to record this in their 1st or 2nd NBA game:
Shaq, DRob, Bill Walton, Mutombo, Sampson, Mychal T, KAT, and Chet.
All of these players played >30 mins.
Trayce played THIRTEEN.
Watching Purdue lose was undeniably hilarious.
But I'll say this: I feel for the players, coaches, families. They worked their asses off and had a great season, overachieving & winning a Big Ten title.
An entire season shouldn't be colored by one 40-minute game ... but it is.
Give Teri Moren whatever she wants or needs to keep this program rolling.
This is a major achievement … and still feels like it’s just the beginning.

NEWS: Washington State transfer guard Myles Rice has committed to Indiana,
@On3sports
has learned.
The 6-3 Rice averaged 14.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game this season — in his first year playing CBB.
My favorite times in the IU-Purdue rivalry are when the teams are both really good, the games matter, and each team’s best player earns the respect of the opposing fan base. Certainly seems like that’s the case this season.
Just wait until Mike Woodson's players hear the story about how their head coach was such a badass that he had mid-season back surgery, only played 6 conference games, and was STILL named Big Ten MVP.
Yeah.
#iubb
What a great, great win for this team. Ugly at times, but who the hell cares. They fought, stuck together, and really dug deep defensively at the end. This one really felt different. So proud of this group.
NEWS: Stanford transfer Kanaan Carlyle, a top-10 player in the portal, has committed to Indiana,
@On3sports
has learned.
The 6-3 freshman guard averaged 11.5 PPG this season. Former top-50 recruit.
You probably won't find Fino and Trey on many lists of the "best backcourts in America" ... but what they did tonight, on both ends, was undeniably one of the best backcourt performances of the season.
I'll put them up against anyone in the country come tournament time.
Look, the players deserve a huge amount of credit for turning this season around.
But so does Mike Woodson (and his staff).
This is the third straight game that has been really well-coached. Guys have been prepared, and adjustments/in-game moves have been spot on.
As someone who publicly lauded Zach Edey for his postgame comments on Saturday, I decided to watch this with an open mind, thinking maybe there was another way to see it that I didn't consider.
Nope.
Instead, this is one of the worst sports takes I've ever heard.
.
@dandakich
is TIRED of players not taking responsibility for their own mistakes!
Watch
@BoilerBall
’s Zach Edey take the heat off Freshman Braden Smith and blame the loss against Indy on the team👇
Tune in LIVE now:
It didn't work out with
@Archie_Miller
at IU, but he did recruit 8 of the 13 players on this roster and helped to instill the defensive mindset Woody built upon.
I'm sure his feelings are complex, but he's been positive about IU all season long. We wish him well.
#respect
NEWS: Arizona transfer Oumar Ballo, a top-5 player in the portal, has committed to Indiana, he tells
@On3sports
.
The 7-0 big man averaged 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season.
Cal at UK before this moment:
• 217-47 (82.2%)
• 1 national title
• 4 Final Fours
Cal at UK after this moment:
• 193-76 (71.7%)
• 0 national titles
• 0 Final Fours
When you look at Zach Edey's numbers and his team's accomplishment, it's hard to argue with him as Big Ten POY.
Unless there is a player like Trayce in the conference as well, who he lost to twice H2H.
Really disappointed Trayce didn't at least get Co-POY. He deserved it.
Obviously disappointed things didn't work out for Tamar at IU. We've all seen the flashes of talent and scoring ability. Wishing him the best finding a better fit (perhaps closer to home and to his little girl) and will be cheering him on wherever he goes.

I'm so proud of our entire program -- coaches, players, and fans -- for how its responded to this opportunity to play in the NIT. It's not the outcome we wanted for this season, but we're making the most of it (through two games at least).
Bravo to everyone in Bloomington.
IU football fan support has always been comparatively small, but the true die-hard
#iufb
fans are as loyal and supportive as any in America. I am SO happy for these people. They deserve this team -- which doesn't only win, but wins with joy, integrity, and esprit de corps.
#LEO
I love IU fans. I love Assembly Hall. I love Woody, who means so much to this program. I love our players, who are good young men and want to give us a winner.
I love IU basketball -- always have, always will.
So it pains me greatly to say: this doesn't feel like IU basketball.
Another angle of that picture. It says so much about these two young men who had the considerable weight of Hoosier Nation on their shoulders all season long.
Tonight didn't go how either of them wanted it to go. But man they did so much for this program all season long.
Gentlemen:
Go north ‘til you smell it, west ‘til you step in it, then play hard as hell until you win it.
Remember the words of a legend: “I’m sick and tired of losing to Purdue.”
End that nonsense tonight. End Purdue’s season. Time for a new streak. It’s our state.
#iubb
Is some of this because of Caitlin Clark? Absolutely. And deservedly so, because she's amazing.
But it's as much, if not more, because this fan base absolutely loves Teri Moren's program, what it represents, and how they play the game.
It’s been a tumultuous first season for Woody.
But, bottom line, he has:
— Turned the defense around for real
— Ended losing streaks to PU and MICH
— Created an actual happy memory at the Big Ten Tournament
— Developed a point guard
One massive Year One to-do item left.
Indiana just bounced back from a 15-point loss to beat a consensus
#1
seed on their home court by 8 while shooting 21 fewer free throws.
The net result? I'll go into every game the rest of the way believing we're going to win.
This team earned that faith and trust tonight.
In terms of talent acquisition and roster construction, things are coming together quite nicely so far this offseason.
Well done, Coach Woodson and staff.
Just exchanged messages with a die-hard IU fan who brought her 10-year old daughter to the game, who LOVES IU. They waited after to meet the players. She got to take pictures.
"They are all such amazing young men. Every single one of them."
This is always worth acknowledging.
What's happening tonight in West Lafayette is what makes college sports so special. I don't like it, but I sure can appreciate it. And given what this win means to Tyler Trent, I'm glad it's happening. Abject Purdue hate will resume tomorrow. Tonight, just respect.
This will lowlight from last night will make the rounds of
#iubb
conversations today, and it should.
The next time someone stupidly says "Edey is just tall," send them this clip. If any IU fans don't respect the hell out of him now, they're just being willfully obstinate.
So excited for Saturday. This is how IU-Purdue should always be.
• Two ranked teams (including one at
#1
) anchored by All Americans
• Real stakes in the B1G race
• Lots of guys from Indiana playing key roles
• A bonkers arena
College basketball at its absolute best.
Good win. Streak over. That's 8 out of 9 for your Indiana Hoosiers, including two straight ranked victims at Assembly Hall.
This team is figuring some things out at exactly the right time.
#iubb
So our current basketball staff includes Mike Woodson, Thad Matta, Kenya Hunter, and Dane Fife.
That's absolute 🔥 already.
Get Mike Lewis on board, and the staff around Mike Woodson is just about as good as you could possibly imagine.
