Companies spend a lot on corporate training (~$400b; @TrainingIndustr). In this small study, coaching, workshops, projects & online are preferred but my favourite, case studies, is not. Investment should focus on who training is for, not one-size-fits-all. https://t.co/eGt7GHh3Ft

On Malaysia Day, I’m celebrating the work of a Malaysian artist who I live with. Known by our kids as ‘mommy’, @AzaliaSuhaimi is an illustrator and writer who's currently completing a Master’s in Creative Writing at @WritingNULondon. Below is her recent work for @asean Magazine.

My recent podcast interview on the Barakah Effect -- on balancing family, work, and study. I can't think of a reason to record a two hour conversation with myself, but these guys did. Thank you, gentlemen. Full video: https://t.co/MBJVNnR9vM

I was inspired by the 'first reaction' interviews of @NobelPrize winners this year who got the unexpected call in the wee hours. It made me revisit this book from a few years back and I was moved by the tales of grit & resilience. Will set my alarm to Stockholm time just in case.

All the best to new students registering for university. My first day 22 years ago at @NorthwesternU was quite uneventful judging from these pictures. Freshmen today will get a group picture from a drone at the football field. I did manage to get one with the signboard! @NUAlumni

3. Be yourself The best person to tell your story is: yourself! Pin down unique traits that makes you stand out in the crowd. The committee are reviewing hundreds of videos, which makes standing out harder. Don’t stress on the process & view it as an avenue to showcase yourself.

2. Keep it simple Use everyday words and keep the language as layman as possible. My default assumption is people don’t have time to fully focus on my video & only need to know the key points. I also divide my essays into subsections so that the reader knows my frame of mind.

1. Tell them what they don’t know The video/essay is a complement to the application form. The length of these materials are limited. Use this space to tell them what they can’t get from the forms. I used my essay to address low undergraduate GPA & reflect on how I bounce back.

Ten years ago, with a Sony Cyber-shot in hand, I stood on this spot to shoot a video for my MBA application. Today I coach prospective postgraduates in preparing their application essays. In this process, I find the following three points to be most useful... [Thread] @PhDVoice

There is no direct or prescribed path into becoming an adjunct. It’s a mix of reputation building, networking & a lot of patience. The key is to enjoy the journey & give your all in each engagement no matter how big or small. You can start as a guest speaker first. Good luck!

3. Expand your network Becoming an adjunct doesn’t happen overnight & the conventional route is through professional relationships that's built over many years. Academic & industry conferences are a great platform to get to know people from both ends of the world. Get involved!

2. Share your thoughts Use platforms you have access to in showcasing your thought leadership while building a following. LinkedIn is an effective platform given that both professionals and academics converge here. You can also start small by giving talks at your alma mater.

1. Define your focus area It’s important to begin with what you can offer before exploring opportunities. Look into your expertise & package it in a manner that's easily articulated. This can position you as a subject matter expert in the field & shape a consistent narrative.
