this isnt just figma btw. tech IPOs are finally happening again:. stripe supposedly going public this year.databricks is preparing.bunch of unicorns are dusting off their S-1s. the IPO drought might actually be over?? what do you think?.

obviously real life is more complicated:. taxes are gonna hurt (a lot).180 day lockup so they cant sell yet.might of gotten refresh grants too.stock could tank tomorrow who knows. but still. generational wealth type money.

like. think about that for a sec:.3 years of work and a $512k grant just became $3.3 MILLION.and thats JUST whats vested. the rest is worth another $660k or so.absolutely wild.

did some quick math on the equity:. $512k ÷ $14.78 = roughly 34,628 shares total.after about 40 months of vesting = ~28,855 shares they can actually sell.at yesterdays close of $115 = $3.3M in equity they own right now.

ok so I looked at a real example - an L2 engineer who joined figma back in april 2022. there offer was:. Base: $170k.Equity: $128k/year for 4 years = $512k total.strike price back then was probably around $14.78/share.

figma just went public and its absolutely insane. $FIG IPO'd at $33, opened at like $85, and hit ~$115 by close. thats a 250% first day which is just. wow. Company went from $19B to almost $50B in one day. guess how employees got rich in a day 👇.
