When Facebook started you had to be at least 18 years old to have an account and needed to be in university (you could only open an account with a university email).

The risk of contracting Leptospirosis is high among those affected by floods and among rescue workers. There is an incorrect AI generated guideline currently circulating online. This is the Correct Guideline issued by the Ministry of Health. Edit: Dr. Ashwini De Abrew

What we have gone through is horrifying. But tourism is also critical. This is the time to show that we are rebuilding, and that we are recovering. Updates should be provided regularly on road networks, infrastructure, flights and more.

From ports to telecoms, LK has many examples where privatisation has worked for all. LK has over 100% 📞 penetration thanks to privatisation. Mocking Dialog because its towers collapsed from land slides or had no power from CEB, is not a reason to warn us about privatisation.

SOE losses ultimately fall on taxpayers, and mismanagement has real human costs, true. But privatisation on its own doesn’t guarantee better outcomes. Plenty of private operators also fail, exploit consumers or end up needing taxpayer-funded bailouts when they become “too big to

The hundreds of billions of rupees of losses suffered for decades by our SOEs are paid for by tax payers. This money could have been spent on better infrastructure and services that could have dramatically reduced the lives lost. Consequences are very different.

So it won’t be misinterpreted: this post is a reminder that whether something is privately or publicly owned, the same issues can appear. The real focus should be on management and efficiency - not ownership. Private companies aren’t magically immune to the problems public

Amidst all these, a real bright spot is Irrigation Dept that gives real time data on water levels in major rivers, generated at key locations, providing actionable info to inform flood warnings and evacuation notices. https://t.co/7RGvc1YvQf E.g. 🔽 Glencourse (Kelani River)

In Sri Lanka, the lack of sex and relationship education has resulted in children gang-raping other children. That is the true state of our “culture” and “සදාචාරය”. The best way to protect children is by educating them. No sermon by any Cardinal or Mahanayake will save them.

Racism is so deeply entrenched in the Sri Lankan psyche. Most people feel entitled to be racist and the vast majority of people give them a free pass to be it. Sri Lanka belongs to all her people. Everyone who was born on or from this soil. And no racist can take that away.

This does not translate into an automatic right to examine the documents of every person going abroad. It is only limited to those actually going abroad for employment and the officer has reasonable grounds to believe that such person hasn’t registered.

Foreign Employment Bureau do not have the power or the right to check your passport and determine if you can travel or not. Several FEB staff man the airport queues asking to check passports of travellers. They have no power to do this and need to be immediately removed.

Like it or not, when Rajapksas built high ways and flyovers, they did it in record time. Perhaps at a bit inflated cost, but the cost of delay would have been higher. Otherwise, this could have been the fate of airport highway. Sadly, Yahapalanaya ruined the momentum
