The timing of when the friend contacted OP also implies that her boyfriend was part of this decision to set boundaries, too. Like I don’t think he wants to see you either!!
Everyone, after 5 years, I've finished the post I wanted to write. This is my baby, my ASOIAF magnum opus...it's basically a fucking dissertation but I accomplished what I wanted. It isn't as perfect as I wanted it to be but perfect is the enemy of good.
Something I think the show misses about Dany is that while the in-universe narrative among characters may have been that she is the Mad King's Daughter, there's also the other side that Barristan saw: She is also Rhaegar's sister. Her sense of destiny and the thought that it
The stance that Sansa asking about how they will feed these armies is short-sighted in terms of the bigger picture is... well, short-sighted. These sorts of logistical questions—and their ramifications—are exactly the questions GRRM is interested in:

Unfortunately, the difficulty is that the Marcoses have been incredibly active and successful in spreading misinformation on TikTok
Despite many's floating doubts about Aegon's later casting, I hope we can agree Tom Glynn-Carney has a fantastic salty-"you-can't-be-serious-right-now-why-is-this-happening" giggle
I understand the appeal of the "reluctant monarch" but I continue to hate it because it almost always cuts against those to whom power doesn't just fall into their laps. Look at who gets to be the reluctant monarch every time: straight, able-bodied white men.

Just a reminder that Lyanna running didn't escalate everything to war:
Aerys BREAKING THE FEUDAL CONTRACT by murdering the Lord of Winterfell & his heir, then demanding the Lord of the Vale break guest right to send heads of the next Stark heir & the Lord of Storm's End did.
Thinking about how the show just fabricated conflict for women and girl characters while men were so easily "chill" with each other. Like, Jon and Jorah are TOTALLY going to clash when they meet each other.
In ACOK & ASOS, Jon thinks so often of what the "Old Bear" would--
reluctant leader cuts against women, POC, LGBTQ, disabled people, those who DON'T already have power. And when they try to take some of it, they get painted as power hungry for wanting something denied to them. Because we have to fight for it in a way those who just get it don't.

Missandei should have been a POV and could have provided the Essosi perspective that could have helped ground readers in the Meereenese arc. Lack of Essosi perspectives caused readers to have less emotional investment in the Slaver's Bay arc and is part of readers' frustration.
Matchup 31: Podrick Payne (54) vs. Missandei (75)
Pod is loyal as a squire to Tyrion & as a companion to Brienne, saving them both at least once. Missandei, wise beyond her years, offers Dany a shoulder to cry on & a reminder of innocence that she badly needs.

I've said it before but I'll say it again: I'm (foolishly?) optimistic about HOTD. Among other things in this interview, this displays an understanding of the material (also the non-highlighted part at the bottom about the context of the peace in Westeros)
Besides Aegon’s prophecy/dragon dream’s implications for the main series, it’s functioning as it does for (some) prophecy in the books: supplying character motivation and at times, creating a sense of irony within the story.
Do you think about how no one could hear Ghost except for Jon... so that means that only Jon could hear Ghost crying AND HE STILL DIDN'T GO FLOOF HIM????
show struggled to capture in Daenerys and that in-between space of madness and greatness not being two opposite sides of a coin so much as being the same object in different light with different faces.

And within NYT Cooking and Bon Appetit:
NYT has some great beginner guides on basic skills.
BA has an offshoot "Basically" that also has simple recipes that help reinforce basics.
Sometimes, I think about how Brienne left the Stark troops just before Maege & Dacey Mormont returned with Robb & how meeting the Mormont women would've changed her life. Seeing brave warrior women wielding real political power could've been the start of self-acceptance.

I appreciate my mom trying to express interest in my activities and asking if the new show, HOTD, is good but I am trying to not seem too enthusiastic because I don’t want her to consider watching it because I have no idea how to explain the incest

A young Ned Stark wielding the ancestral sword of Bear Island? That's going to blow up.
The best part of my Game of Thrones journey was the time I got 3 pizzas for the price of one. My college roommate was showing me GOT. We did 2 for 1 pizzas (one had pineapple on it). They forgot to put sauce on one, so they brought us another pizza.
And to think this is over.

As a Swedish person, I can confirm what Eliana is saying here. That word definitely has the same connotation as the n-word in English. It is considered racist to use that term, even if when referring to an outdated term for a pastry. Note the wiki:

My heart wants to see one of the swords go back north for Sansa or to guard her. It would be as if Ice was reforged in that it would serve both Stark monarchs.
Me, reading ASOIAF with the intent to ruin lives: But what if Sandor Clegane is the song of ice and fire, and the other side of his face gets frostbite?
For many reasons, this past year has been incredible in terms of what I've seen myself able to accomplish - but sometimes I wonder if it's because I started drinking coffee.
Thank you, coffee, for your contribution to me.

Late morning hot takes: Rhaegar Targaryen and Arthur Dayne MUST be dead by the time the story George is telling starts, as their lives/deaths represent the ideas of medievalist romance that ASOIAF is meant to counter.

because what I've honestly been thinking since watching the movie is: I do not care if you liked the movie or not, if it worked for you or not so long as we can all acknowledge that KMT herself was wronged
I've been saying it since Sons but reading the Jaehaerys & Alysanne excerpt & looking at the span of Fire & Blood solidifies it for me: The story from Aegon I—Aegon III isn't just the history of dragonlords—it's the history of how women's political power in Westeros diminished.
I would like to share with you all my dinner last night, in which I hot smoked salmon. It is my first time smoking my food so this was very exciting for me, please clap
I have chosen, for this instance, to disregard any logical production explanation for Jon not saying bye to Ghost in lieu of the in-universe explanation that Jon, also possessing Targaryen blood, is in fact the mad one AND IS A MONSTER WHO DOESN'T DESERVE PETS

What's fun about Daenerys—and many of ASOIAF's women—is you can see how men in their lives often think of them only as pawns to buy alliances. But Tyrion does a wonderful job of summarizing this mistake to fAegon: "I know she is proud. How not? What else was left her but pride?"
Something I love about how Cersei is written, esp in AGOT, is that the first time we see the TRUE Cersei is in the godswood with Ned. She's characterized as an "ice queen," with her face like an icy mask and Robert calling her "cold."
But the godswood reveals the truth:
Yet there were those in-universe who saw Rhaegar as valiant and noble. There are those among readers who would argue that Rhaegar might have been right, that it's worth it if it saves the world. But that IS the question: Are destiny & the price of achieving it worth the cost?
No one will convince me the House Tully sigil isn't inspired by the Dr. Seuss book "One Fish, Two Fish", just as you can't convince me the Faceless Men aren't inspired by the award winning movie Face/Off
(I don't know if things ever get mediated between them or not, but if they do, I'd imagine that Sam would play a role, as he knows Jeor's last wishes.
Because again, lbr: ASOIAF is about daddy issues. What isn't.)
While the show has touched on some of this, George has made it clear that these civil wars are leaving the Seven Kingdoms even more unequipped for a winter than they usually are. The more people starve, the more people die, and the more wights join the Others.
Interesting quote in the picture, especially as Jaime raises the question of "were they better back then? Or is it just my nostalgia coloring it all rose?" (paraphrased). Then he wonders when the boy inside him had died. Reminds me of Aemon's advice, "Kill the boy and
And me, that boy I was … when did he die, I wonder? When I donned the white cloak? When I opened Aerys’s throat? That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead.
