Literature was not available to council estate kids at my RC high school; only those who might go to uni! I passed the 11+ aged 7 but was blocked from grammar school bc RC, matriculated into Oxford but no money so dropped out. I now have a BA & MA in Philosophy. Dum spiro spero
I was straight up told by an HE big shot some years ago ‘art isn’t for poor people. They need something that will get them jobs.’ UK’s far right govt is terrified of humanities, art, social sciences because we teach students critical thinking.

This is serious. Happened today in Manhattan. As a public defender for over a decade, I have tried cases where the Manhattan DA uses a "hysterical 911 call" as categorical evidence of guilt. Usually there's no video like this to refute it. (1/4)
