“Being proud of our history?” A new blog series reflecting on challenges for “the history teaching community” in responding to the challenges raised by BLM and others. Hopefully taken in the spirit of openness it is intended . #historyteacher

I don’t know if the research done for The Right Kind of History has any examples? Also wondering if @IOE_London keep old copies of gcse specifications? Want to trace back both the historical specs and the pupils work. @ArthurJChapman

Hey #historyteacher Twitter. Back briefly as am looking to get hold of old pupil exercise books containing SHP American West stuff. I currently have 2, from the 90s. Hoping to gather examples from 1970s to 2020s for research. If anyone has old books in the attic, I’d love to chat

Was taking a break for the summer. Am returning to say that I won’t be back on Twitter / X until Musk is gone. Am thankful for all the brilliant conversations I have had on here but I will not continue to be a part of a platform which sows hate and disinformation.

Super important blog here on equality of access, bursaries and getting people who can actually commit to train to teach @bphillipsonMP @educationgovuk
🚨NEW BLOG🚨 I care greatly about #teacher #recruitment & the need to remove barriers to access for those keen to #getintoteaching #ITT #ITE #PGCE . Hoping the new @bphillipsonMP led @educationgovuk are open to considering role of #bursaries🤞 https://t.co/usYFDJfUez

Am 100% here for sensible and sensitive reform. Need to be v mindful of workload & losing things. Leaving curric alone since 2014 has had downsides but has also meant tchrs finding the gaps for creativity too. Reform needs to embrace innovations in place and tchr expertise
We want all pupils to leave education ready for life, work and the future. Our review will develop a curriculum and assessment system that creates the best life chances for young people.

Oh and I know some people cannot afford to holiday at all, but there are also ways we can support experiences for families. Either way, getting time off work is a huge struggle for people on low pay / zero hour jobs.

England has among the shortest school holidays in the world. Yes school time is important but it’s not everything I understand there are also safeguarding issues, but these issues are also there in the school holidays. They can be managed.

I am sure there are problems but for me I would allow any family to take up to 7 days out of school for a family holiday every 3 years. Most wouldn’t take it, but for others it would make the difference between having those experiences and not.

It’s really hard to justify the need to be in school for the last week when so many places are just watching videos right now. But even beyond that there’s an irony that schools are meant to promote wider learning / experiences and at the same time block families doing this

Term time holiday fines are a sledgehammer to crack a nut. For many people term time holidays (anywhere) are prohibitively expensive. Wealthier families will see a fine as an acceptable cost vs the added cost of going in a school holiday. Others just won’t afford to go.

Just had most glorious sunny day in York with @SnelsonH & @Laura_Londo1017 . A huge treat - Snelson guided tours of Minster & Clifford's Tower & a relaxing lunch. It is a real blessing when your work gifts you friends. I'm so grateful for both these wonderful inspiring women.

The idea that improving benefits "doesn't deal with the root causes of poverty" is one of the most perniciously bad ideas in politics. You know what's cut pensioner poverty in half over the last 25 years? Giving them more money!
