NEW: The family of Virginia Giuffre released the following letter directed at Ghislaine Maxwell: “Ghislaine, you deserve to spend the rest of your life in a jail cell. Trapped in a cage forever just like you trapped your victims.”

It's fucking wild we need a dead man's emails to believe the testimonies of 1000 women.

He explained to me when he shifted the focus of his degree to Latin/Ancient Greek/Sanskrit, these studies give him the root of all languages. cognates & etymology Fascinating. I hope that helps those who don’t understand why Latin remains important.

This, by an eminent Polish mathematician, Mark Kac, discussing the Indian mathematician Ramanujan, is relevant.
@getjonwithit I'm surprised that someone like you would say "my brain just didn't work that way", come on man! As if there is some magical quality in his brain that allows him to solve that specific problem in that way. He just happened to have the right mathematical tool in his subconscious.

Soon we’ll have a whole generation of grandfathers who can’t change a diaper, cook a meal, or name their own medications without help, but nobody writes think-pieces about their failure to whittle, hunt, or die heroically in wars they never fought. “Skills” only become sacred
Soon we will have a whole generation of grandmothers who can’t knit or bake, but will be covered in tattoos with fake lips and plastic breasts. Kinda crazy.

Rajdeep has a new friend.
@sardesairajdeep A breath of fresh air to have someone push back against the toxic right wing narrative that is doing so much damage to Indian's global interests and reputation.

When 740 children died at sea and every country said "no," one man—who had reason to remain silent—said "yes." The year was 1942. The ship drifted in the Arabian Sea, like a floating coffin. There were 740 Polish children on board. Orphans. Survivors of Soviet labor camps, where

@SohrabAhmari The line separating universalism from imperialism is a thin one. To believe that if you dont believe what i believe makes you evil invariably leads to persecution and violence.

Burgeoning Indian trade with the Roman Empire financed almost half the Empire’s defence expenses from Augustus’ reign. When this trade collapsed after the empire-wide plague of 166 which killed perhaps a third of its population, Europe’s maritime world fell silent. By 700 AD,

I thought it was only Bengalis who asked questions like would-Tagore-have-approved? Then again, we are known neurotics. But no, it seems this particular disease is catching. And poor Munshi Premchand must be channeled to weigh in on visa rules!
Do you consider Mushi Premchand rooted? And would he have approved of this act? I have read him and seriously doubt this sits well with the values of his writings. His works sought to stir conscience and not to flatter power.

Absolutely amazing to see large swathes of Indian men tying themselves up in knots to explain away the Taliban’s misogyny. Not only do they fail to applaud Indian newswomen for calling it out, they impute all kinds of malign motives to the women. Eye opening!

Everyone talks about India’s air quality. But I have a different sustainability story I also want to point out from India. When I studied for my master’s in Denmark about sustainable design, I read endless reports about “new” design solutions on reusable, degradable packaging

This speech by Swami Vivekananda, delivered in Chicago on this day in 1893, is widely regarded as a watershed moment. Emphasising harmony and universal brotherhood, he passionately spoke about the ideals of Indian culture on the world stage. It is truly among the most celebrated
