something I’ve observed is that many people have low standards for filmmaking (editing, sound, cinematography, lighting) but high standards of morality for characters and dialogue. this strips the film down to its parts and overall “message”

The problem lies that she's not acting as Nano but as Kitty. She's trying too hard to imitate her facial expressions and voices and it feels like a cheap imitation :/

The difference is that even tho Kitty barely moved her head and face, her gaze tells you she's not just a human, while the other tried to act, but that particular gaze wasn't there.
