An elementary school student on a field trip to the Michigan State Capitol this morning pointed her little finger at me and said, “she’s a journalist” in the softest little voice
I can do anything today
because I'm already seeing it from Sens and outlets
It is not "Dr." Larry Nassar.
The State of Michigan permanently revoked his medical license in 2018.
Just a lil professional advice
Coming from the perspective of having gone through a journalism program in recent years
No matter what your professors say, your friends in your program are not your competition, they are your team
Celebrate with them and be celebrated by them
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer renames the Lewis Cass building as the Elliot-Larsen Building after State Reps. Daisy Elliot and Mel Larsen who sponsered Michigan’s 1976 Civil Rights Act.
This is the first time Michigan has had a state building named after an African-American woman.
The motion: "No person may carry a firearm in the public areas inside the Michigan State Capitol Building."
This doesn't include law enforcement and would be effective immediately.
Just to be clear, I am COMPLETELY fine, but there’s a level of irony to the cries calling the police women beaters for removing “a little girl” yesterday when I’m 22 years old and haven’t graduated college
Union leader Shawn Fain outside the Ford Plant when asked how long the strikes will last

Ciao Michiganders 👋
Starting July 25 I’ll be joining
@detroitnews
covering communities, courts and more in Macomb County.
I’m very excited to return home to metro Detroit and look forward to getting back to reporting after a much needed vacation 😎
I MISSED the anniversary of this
If you're in need of some good doggo content, I don't know a better dog than Justice (a certified 15/10)
Here's her story
This is Justice. She was supposed to be a leader dog for the blind, but never mastered stairs. Now she works in MSU’s Sexual Assault Program, offering support and providing a smile where few are found. I’m told she likes peanut butter and carrots, and she’s our sixth ever 15/10
@Rainesford
One time I read the entirety of “I, Who Have Never Known Men” in a bar just so I could go about my life w/ the knowledge that several people are in love with me for no reason
Go off sis
Took the Ml media shuffle thing
a bit too far.
I'm taking a break to backpack
Europe!
I wrapped up an amazing two
year stint
@AP
and for the next
few weeks I'll be touching grass
and eating pasta.
Looking forward to finding my
next opportunity in reporting
when I come back🌎
The City of East Lansing has partnered with the parents of Nassar survivors and installed teal prayer flags along Grand River Avenue. The flags have messages from MSU students written on them. More flags will be going up this week.
@thesnews
Absolutely not
@Charlieleduff
You’re not proud of your handy work? Something about your writing is extremely unethical?
I thought we disrespect the women with our whole chest?
I saved the tweet for you.
Wouldn’t want you to lose it

🎉 I’m coming back!
At the beginning of May I’ll be returning to the Michigan Capitol to report on our state government and statewide issues for
@MichiganAdvance
It means a lot to me to return to the place that invested so much into me as an intern
🚨 I’m stoked to announce I’ll be joining the
@Report4America
corps in Lansing, MI as an
@AP
Statehouse reporter in June!
I’ll be continuing my COVID-19 coverage and transition into following the U.S. House races and state infrastructure ~ the damn roads
🧵 from one of the bravest and kindest people I know
she was hung out to dry by many of my colleagues and men in power for doing the right thing and holding power accountable
Hear what she has to say
She shouldn’t have had to endure any of this
Ok here goes it: During my time as a Capitol reporter in Lansing, I faced burnout, anxiety, and depression, as well as relentless harassment. Despite this, I kept it all to myself, feeling like it would make me seem self-centered or incapable. I finally broke down in Jan. (1/x)
Ladies, in any industry or stage of life, I just recommend having a ‘f*ck you’ fund
like three months worth of living expenses so if something goes wrong, you can leave situations
Even my grandma, who was madly in love with my grandpa, told me to have one since I was like 8
The news industry is constantly facing changes, which are not as friendly to young journalists. What advice do you have for younger reporters who are trying to build their career but might be struggling in this environment? How do you motivate them?
Hey all,
I started back up at Capitol coverage during quite honestly the most disgusting May day possible.
Stay warm Michiganders

I wasn’t there, but several friends in the Michigan press corps were at a recent press conference with one of the lawmakers who has tested positive for COVID-19. House Republicans should be transparent about how many members and staff have contracted the virus.

Inbox: MI Gov. Whitmer signed six bills today addressing difficulties with reporting sexual violence and circumstances that allow abuse to continue.
Commonly known as “Nassar bills” sponsors have said the state is learning from survivors and these bills are for all survivors
This was my first tv appearance so I was really nervous
I think the coverage from yesterday (seen below) paints a better picture than my interview
The protest was a hostile environment
Detroit’s competing newspapers both released opinion pieces on what’s going on at Michigan State University this morning
Here are excerpts from Freep and Det News
The moment survivors of Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse and their moms heard the Michigan State University board unanimously agreed to review and release 6000 documents the school has for six years withheld from the state attorney general’s investigation into his abuse

“Michigan voters have the right to vote in person on Election Day free from threat and intimidation,” Democratic MI Attorney General Dana Nessel said in the release. “An armed presence at the polls is inconsistent with our notion of a free democracy.”
Hey all, it’s my last day
@AP
w/
@Report4America
and even though I’ve still got some things that will be published soon, I wanted to share some of my favorite stories I got to do in Michigan over the last two years, not necessarily the national wire stories, but dear to me
Tried to find that profoundly bad tweet thread from The New York Times internship coordinator about what schools “churn out the most consistently productive candidates”
Reminder to college journalists, some internships don’t deserve you.
Me laughing bc 20 something girls are literally quickly taking over the Lansing press corps and I know this is going to be a thing of the past REAL soon
‘Interviews with >50 former Liberty students and staffers, as well as records from more than a dozen cases, show how an ethos of sexual purity(…)has led to school officials discouraging, dismissing and blaming female students who have tried to come forward with claims of SA’
New: The school founded by evangelist Jerry Falwell ignored reports of rape and threatened to punish accusers for breaking its moral code, say former students. An official who says he was fired for raising concerns calls it a “conspiracy of silence.”

When a person gets married and wants to change their name on their drivers license in Michigan, they go to their local Secretary of State’s office. When a transgender Michigander wants to change their name on that ID, they go to court.
Legislation aims to change that

How could this have happened? ask Trump-enabling politicians and media who have for years ignored warnings that something like this would inevitably happen
For everyone thinking 'hmm maybe MSU might cancel class because of the confirmed coronavirus cases
...
remember in 2019 when the National Weather Service was like 'don't go outside, the air is so cold it can kill you' and MSU sent us an email saying 'lol don't breathe'
More accurately he is not a “doctor” as Dr. is the academic title.
However, with the conflation of the two terms and how both communicate to readers “medical doctor” it is good practice to cease use of either.
He didn’t just lose his license. He PERMANENTLY had it revoked.
Bill sponsor Rep. Jason Hoskins on the topic of conversion therapy
“At the end of the day, this is really torture for kids,” Hoskins said. “You’re growing up, you’re figuring things out and I think children should have that opportunity to do that.”
After Hall gavels down Johnson for making a statement, Rep. John Reilly, R-Oakland Township, is allowed to speak at length about his opinions about the election.
Not a new thought, but I really think we should talk more about the trauma of the last 3+ years
I get it, we’re all too strong and professional to admit things have been hard or scary, but we’ve got to start talking to each other
It's been six months since I started at
@AP
and it's been quite the ride.
I'm very fortunate to have been able to stay in Lansing thanks to
@Report4America
and I'm in awe of all of the amazing work this year's corps has done.
