Malayalis who keep demanding airports across Kerala should realize unless you have one mega hub airport like Bangalore, you won’t get direct flights to destinations, and just be a feeder airport, paying more to fly thru hubs. CIAL needs scale maxx hard to become a hub.
Kerala is the 4th largest state for international passenger traffic, yet gets fewer direct international flights. Malayalees are forced to reroute via hubs. Kochi – Paris/Munich is ~9 hrs direct, but 14+ hrs via Dubai or Mumbai.

Kerala *checks notes* was a hub of Indian Ocean trade. That built ships. Had native Jewish, Syrian Christian and Muslim traders who traded across the seas, and had sister communities in Indian Ocean ports.

Sunday evening. Cousins at home. Planned a trip to Fort Kochi or MG Road. Checked traffic, 1 hr 40 min for just 40 km! Not worth 3 hour drive. Whose loss? Not a lack of demand, but it's suppressed demand. People want to go out, but the city won’t let them.🤦🏾😏

Major Update: We got Sunfeast to pull down their Dark Fantasy ad within 12 hours. Two days back, I asked Sunfeast to remove their ad. This ad suggested that parents should pack chocolate instead of veggies in their kids’ tiffin. Sunfeast removed those ads within 12 hours

I hope that this 20 million sq ft number gets revised upwards, due to smart people seeing the potential demand. Also, I want to see something productive happen with all the land in Willingdon Island and the area around the port in Vallarpadam.
20 million sqft is just a drop in ocean of demand over next decade. It’s an extraordinary waste of space with suburban office sprawl. Indian market has a billion sqft of office space now. The big cities are getting saturated. The next billion sqft is there for the taking.

When the very productive and efficient state of Tamil Nadu calls out progress in Kochi, you know that Kerala just might be doing something right. Also we need to become comfortable with dozens of buildings at least as tall as the new Lulu Cyber Towers in Kochi
Kochi is ~building 20 Million Sq.ft Office space while Coimbatore continues to be neglected. Leave that. These guys are yet to even auction 40% of the land parcels at Chennai's Fintech City announced 3 years ago. Dead slow & less attention to IT/GCC Space...🤧
