Why doesn't @IRCTCofficial sell tea bag tea on Shatabdi Express? Why do they force passengers to buy the horrible pre-mix they call masala tea?

Our paper (with @sarkh_sukanya ) on motherhood penalty using IHDS data gets featured in IHDS newsletter!

I know this from personal experience of quitting Facebook!
Stanford paid 35,000 people to quit social media. This was the largest study on emotional health in history. The results were so shocking, scientists called it "comparable to therapy." Here's what happens when you break free from the algorithm: 🧵

Very well written! I face the same problem in class. Students often refuse to learn new things because the cognitive cost of such learning is high.
I tell students on the first day of class that if you're truly learning it's supposed to feel uncomfortable. The reason is that real learning is not simply the accumulation of facts; it is deep understanding, building mental models of the world, and other higher-level abilities.

Japanese silk industry, with its competitive market structure, could make some key innovation that could make adoption of an Europan technolgy in Asia possible. The paper provides a useful insight into the process of foreign technology adoption.

We argue that micro-innovation is key to successful technology adoption. The East India Company, being the political ruler of Bengal and the monopolist, failed to credibly commit to an institutions that could encourage such innovation.

The technology however, reached Japan by end-nineteenth century and Japan captured world expost market within fifty years of its arrival in Japan. But what does explain the difference between India and Japan? We try answer the question in this paper.

The East India Company tried to Italian steam reeling technology in India so that they could capture the export market by replacing Italy. The project did not see much success and by mid-nineteenth centure the Company lost interest in the project.

There are several sectors where Indian organizations failed to successfully adopt British technology even though colonial rulers actively encouraged such adoption. We work with silk.

We thank @insa_academy for funding this project. The paper came out from a generic question I had: why couldn't we adopt British technology even after being in close contact with them for 200 years? The answer is more nuanced than I imagined.

A few more pictures from yesterday's panel discussion. A lively exchange on clientilism, demand and supply side identity politics, why ethnic identities and not class identity, become more prominent with increasing inequality etc; sprinkled with some friendly banter.

Can't agree more! I still remember the pain I felt while watching this Miazaki masterpiece!
Before I go crazy converting historical pictures of violence, death, war into cute Ghibli versions to desensitize pain & suffering, I must rewatch Grave of the Fireflies to remind myself what the studio has done to bring empathy & escapism closer by aesthetics; and so must you.
