I wrote about that momentโ€”and the years of exploration across roles that led me to design engineering @windsurf_ai : thanks to @designengclub for letting me share this story!.

I was immediately convinced to become an engineer to help others, just like he did for me. Over the next decade, I explored SWE, product design and PM. I was searching for a way to apply engineering intuition to real user problems. I finally found it in design engineering.

The cellist's dad diagnosed the situation, bit into the plug, tied the wires together, and then pressed the power button. It turned on. "How did you do that?" I asked. He said "I'm an engineer".

I loved playing music in high school and played both the keys and percussion in an orchestra. During one concert's setup, someone tripped on the keyboard's wire, snapping it. I was supposed to play a Harry Potter solo within the next hour, so I panicked. Someone came to help.

One of my most defining moments happened when my keyboard broke during a concert. That moment kickstarted a decade-long journeyโ€”one that led me to engineering, design, and ultimately, design engineering. Here's the story ๐Ÿ‘‡.

@Yash_471 @SunnyKev1n @metalab @studiodumbar In parallel, there's still so much work to be done on the product side and we're excited to continue pushing the boundaries of software development with the Windsurf Editor. The team's very hard at work on the product, we're excited to share what we have in store ๐Ÿ™‚.

Huge shoutout to @Yash_471 , @SunnyKev1n and the rest of the team for all of their work. There were so many moving parts to this, including migrating a ton of pages, an entirely new design system, collaborating with brilliant agencies like @metalab and @studiodumbar. Nothing.

Super excited about the introduction of the Windsurf Browser!. When researching, send website context to Cascade so that Cascade works with the same context that you've seen ๐Ÿ”. When building, send elements and more to Cascade to provide more specificity for frontend dev โš’๏ธ. ๐Ÿ‘‡.

Day 2 of Wave 10 is here!. Introducing the Windsurf Browser, a fully functional browser that integrates with Cascade. You can use it like a normal browser while also selecting components, diagrams, text, logs, or anything else on the page and send it back to Cascade as context.

Planning mode in Windsurf is now out! Use it to empower Cascade to work off of a plan with a task list. We also made o3 10x cheaper! Each message now costs 1 credit instead of 10. More here ๐Ÿ‘‡.

RT @kevinhou22: Yes, Anthropic completely cut our Claude 3.x and Claude 4 capacity. I've been getting a lot of questions at @aiDotEngineerโ€ฆ.

the city obviously has its flaws but as a visitor, it's a treat to feel taken care of by the city's thoughtfulness, infrastructure and offerings. excited to take these learnings as inspiration :).

little design details felt like the norm there. for example, hangers in bathrooms, time remaining on stoplights, directed floor painting for specific train routes, baskets at restaurants to safely store bags, etc.

safety was always the default, never the goal. when safety doesn't have to be top of mind, city exploration feels so freeing. this is in contrast to in sf where i frequently design routes to avoid certain areas.

there were way more elderly people using public transportation than i'm used to seeing. it was heartwarming to see the transportation infrastructure serve its elderly as well as its youth. might be biased because i'm based in sf though.

it felt like the baseline for food in tokyo was way higher than in north america. for example, even the warm food readily available at family mart is nutritious and good. this made finding food really convenient when not maximizing as a tourist.

biking infrastructure is surprisingly not the greatest. although the city feels very walkable, many bikers use sidewalks (and very few wear helmets?). it felt like public transportation and walking were the primary modes of transportation there.

the city feels incredibly quiet. everyone's mindful of their individual noise to not disrupt the collective peace and this is especially noticeable in public transportation.

tokyo feels like the city definition of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. the fabric of trust in the form of mindfulness for others makes the city feel like such a delight to be in.
