Overall, one fat question that covers a lot of topics in IB maths, spanning A-level and A-level FM concepts. c:

Part (e) counts on finding the right expression for f, and it’s crucial for part (f) - but it’s fair to expect that from students. I have mixed feelings about making (d) “show that f(x) = …” - feel free to add your thoughts in the comments!

Part (c) is independent of the rest; this is just a routine question. Students can use the answer from (b) to solve (d). This is a hard question, requiring a lot of reasoning and/or algebraic work. The answer they’re asked to show in (d) can then be used for (e).

Thoughts: Part (a) is totally independent from the rest. (a)(i) can be used to solve (a)(ii), as long as students account for the denominator being nonzero. Part (b) is the key to the question - therefore it’s a “show that”. The rest of the question is accessible without a.
