Feeling very autumnal in north Norfolk. Three Redwings in the wind and the skies are full of Pink-footed geese.

Ten minutes at Seasalter before the rain hit. Two Manx shearwaters east and an Arctic skua chasing Black-headed gulls right over the beach huts.

Big numbers of birds in the mouth of the Swale off Seasalter. Those that put in the hours saw more than me but very happy to see 45 Arctic skuas, 3 Manx shearwaters, 20 Black, 20 Arctic and 9 Little terns, 3 Brent geese and Gannets. Wheatear, Hobby and Clouded Yellow too.

A Peregrine, probably a juvenile was ‘playing’ with four Crows for ten minutes along the sea wall at Seasalter this evening. Stooping, attacking from above and below even knocking them off. The Crows seemed annoyed but not really bothered.

My local Hobbies have been very active daily for the last month and must have young nearby. One of them was way out over the Swale this evening - for a second I thought it was a Peregrine or Arctic skua when it sent an incoming flock of twenty four Common terns into a panic.

It is easy to ignore my local woods at this time of year but despite the quietness and heat this morning a Lesser spotted woodpecker - one of nearly twenty pairs I am watching in the Canterbury ring woods was calling continuously in North Bishopden wood. @lesserspotnet
