Mathematics is truly our 3rd eye. It allows us to extend study of beauty & structure beyond what our biological senses allow.

Career Update (a little late!) I’ve joined @pre6ai as a Founding Engineer(first one in the team), excited to work on something fascinating. 🤞

The irony of a drinker judging every non-drinker because some non-drinker judges every drinker? Here's an equally silly counter-take.

Given how many of you seem to relate to this, pls consider supporting @grantdraws' work, if you can. His books are lovely, warm & endearing - just search for Grant Snider on your fav bookstore.

Met a (fairly successful) person who was completely burnt out. But sometimes that's the only thing that helps us rediscover what really mattered. The nature of ambition - by @grantdraws

I used to cite this post to students for a long time, as an example of applying learned concepts in daily life. A classic: https://t.co/oiTuoXzzvl Didn't realise that was you @debarghya_das! I recall reading it in someplace else though at the time.

It turns out that one the biggest boards of education in India, the CISCE, which holds two examinations for students - the ICSE in the 10th grade and the ISC in the 12th grade has fundamental...

This talk by @TigerBeetleDB folks is an absolute unit. The surface area they cover on fault models, perf & other aspects of distributed systems, can keep most engineers busy for weeks digging more. h/t @webiyo Enggs, spend an hr of your weekend on this:

I'd bet that @ponnappa's first tweet in this thread will be proven right in a self referential fashion. Lots of truths in this thread, and some debatable opinions.
For every like on this tweet I will reply with something that most folks in tech and tech-adjacent industries don't want to hear. Hit me.

I'm trying to gather some feedback about the relevance of engineering college curriculum to industry, as viewed from a student's perspective. Can you help circulate this to the right communities? https://t.co/R9j01WXj3y

What a wonderful thing to do. If any IIT-D students on my TL, can you please reply (or DM) with what kinds of these sessions make the most difference?

I feel engineering colleges should invite industry folks to come & interact with 1st yr college students far more than the final/pre-final yr ones. So much to be gained by just a richer perspective to the subjects they'd soon be learning.

My understanding of this is based on an old reading of Mathematical Biology by Murray (an excellent book on mathematical modelling of biological processes), so I could be wrong, or newer/better models may have come up. Feel free to point out if so. 5/5

IIRC, the underlying assumption is that a "preprint" of these equation parameters is encoded into the embryonic cells, so the development process simply follows the chemical process as governed by these params. One can think of these params as the true "fingerprint". 4/5

The mathematical equations that govern this interplay become viable only under certain conditions (. These conditions are governed by the eigenvalues of the linearized equations (of this dynamical system). 3/5

The simplest RD system is an activator-inhibitor system: - activator chemical creates more of itself & an inhibitor - inhibitor chemical inhibits creation of itself & the activator. The dynamic interplay b/w these two, is what Turing proposed to explain these patterns 2/5

What do tiger stripes, leopard spots & other animal patterns have in common with eigenvalues & dynamic system analysis? Cue: Reaction-Diffusion (RD) systems, first proposed by Turing in 1952 1/5
Tigers have striped skin not just striped fur. The stripes are like fingerprints and no two tigers have the same pattern. A tiger's stripes help to break up the outline of its body and make it hard to see [read more: https://t.co/KjWXTrn7LT]

Personally, I'm not a fan of extravagance in marriages, but this thread by @jsensarma makes sense. Perhaps we shouldn't let our individual opinions come in the way of making a modern global industry out of things that are uniquely 🇮🇳
One of the things I learnt from America was that they see opportunity in everything. We on the other hand only see problems in everything. What Vembu sees as a problem, is actually an opportunity. Let me explain with some examples.

I should add another one: age is just a number. Don't let it limit your thinking or ambitions.
