One fundamental mistake software design teams make is behaving like they are the main character in their user's life story, and not the other way around. Design as if your user -didn't want to use your product or develop expertise -hasn't thought about your product for months

I know I frequently talk about sacrifice and an ethical dedication to working in the public service but let me be clear: requiring any in-office work is a hard no for me. There will be a massive talent exodus from the IT side of the public service if this happens.

Attended an event - How to help ees #ReturnToWork without too much stress - with 700+ #GC MGs. It was really upsetting. The talk was biased towards in-office work, included many negative stereotypes about remote workers, didn’t present research on human/equity benefits of #WFH.

1/2 #DYK? Following the launch of the Federal #2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan, the #GC has now adopted the 2SLGBTQI+ acronym and encourages its use across the federal government as a more inclusive term. The change was in response to 2SLGBTQI+ communities’ call for an updated acronym.

Successful remote work in the public service has been done before the pandemic. But stories like mine are not often heard or seen. I am grateful to all the wonderful leaders who've supported me in my journey and I hope fully remote work will continue to blossom, not diminish.

I've been advocating for remote, region-agnostic work that celebrates and promotes talent across Canada for almost 10 years now. I've had to work so hard to be able to negotiate working on my own terms - remotely.

Following role was as a Learning Architect at the Digital Academy. When considering this opportunity, I explicitly negotiated to work remotely full-time, as this worked best for me from past experiences and at that point in my life, as a young parent.
