UPDATE: It’s 365 days before the 2024 election, and I’m excited to be starting my first day at @business! I’m serving on a world-class team — with particular focus on elections from my berth in D.C. First? Celebratory coffee! Then? A constellation of exciting challenges.

But for now, thanks to all the colleagues I’ve had (and friends old + new) here at POLITICO. It’s been a great ride!

I’ll still be based in the D.C. area, still in a great newsroom, still covering elections. More on that a week from Monday — I literally start the new job 365 days before the 2024 General Election, because I couldn’t have it any other way.

This election—like all prior—shows how important a free press is to our democracy. Journalists were extremely cautious to review the results and report the facts and declare a winner when it was clear who truly won. We cannot be a free nation without a free press.

We may all mentally be over with this but election administrators will be working for several weeks more to count every vote, certify the count and do auditing. We owe them a lot of gratitude.
