THIS. white Latinxs use “white passing” to obscure their privilege and complicity in white supremacy in our home countries and the US in a way that those of us who are racialized don’t get to do. calling ourselves “Black-passing” points out the total absurdity of this concept.

DC is more than Capitol Hill and the White House. It’s a place where people live. It’s Piscataway land, it’s Chocolate City (forever), home of go-go and mambo sauce, Salvadoran food and Little Ethiopia. It’s DC residents and workers who are bearing the burden of this moment.

today is literally a day to honor and celebrate the lives, resistance and survival of Indigenous people, and Nury Martinez is out here making fun of Indigenous folks from Latin America. you really cannot make this up. I repeat: white supremacy does not stop at the US border.

Everything Nury Martinez said behind closed doors, we have heard IN PUBLIC. It harms Black Americans, it harms *and erases* Black Latinos, and it harms Indigenous folks- our material conditions. These are policy makers. Can trust them to resource Black and Indigenous communities?

It took the police and city less time to tear down homeless encampments in the middle of a pandemic with no place for them to go, than to clear out armed white supremacists storming the US Capitol. This is why police are useless. Defund police and invest in our communities.

last week, I had a baby! their current interests include: snuggling, breast/chest milk, crying, peeing *during* diaper changes, and staying up late. @keondra and I are so grateful for the queer Black love (and my 47-hour labor) that brought baby Kade into the world. 💞

I don't know how to say this gently for the people who need to hear it but: if your organization's executive director (or organizational equivalent) or highest paid staff is white, your organization is not "people of color led." I have seen organizations try all kinds of stunts:

Nury Martinez's recording, but more than that, a pattern of the way white and mestizo Latinos™️ talk about Blackness in particular shows that they continue to see political gain as zero sum access to the whiteness they maintained in their home countries instead of solidarity.

And this is only for jobs who have that option, which POC are less likely to be in. Not to mention that people of color are more likely to be formally or informally caring for other family members, children, ect. not having to commute puts so much time back in our hands.

there’s nothing like going to the Latino grocery store and having employees outright REFUSE to speak to you in Spanish *even though you are speaking to them in Spanish.* it is so bizarre. truly, the anti-Blackness and erasure is unmatched.

power to domestic workers. power to sex workers. power to farm workers + workers across the food chain. power to early childhood education workers + home health aides + street vendors. so many workers whose work + existence is criminalized + loathed. labor day is for all workers!

@SenWarren wow, really wish there was someone here who could do something about this. if only there was an elected official who could call for a ceasefire that would honor the lives and humanity of Palestinians being murdered and prevent more deaths.

I am confused about who is upset that Hilaria Baldwin, a white US American woman pretended to be a white Spaniard woman? Those of us who are Black from Latin America are clear that white people from Spain and their descendants in Latin America are white. Suggesting that Spain +

one, is that, it appears that for many babies, the symptoms have been relatively mild. like us, most folks have assumed that their baby's fever was due to teething because there were no other symptoms. I heard from several parents who said the same:

@aliciasanchez I'm sorry to hear all this. My now 1 year old was COVID positive at 8 months old from a daycare exposure (along with our 3.5 year old). We were fortunate to just have stuffy noses and a slight cough. Its so hard because most of the symptoms are similar to teething. Hang in there!

I have had two abortions. I am also a mama. Pregnancy was hard, I had a 47 hour labor, and the (physical and emotional) impacts of that have stretched long into my 9 months postpartum. NO ONE should be forced to go through a pregnancy if they don't consent. #AbortionIsEssential

and overall acting in ways that derail movement strategy. Please listen to organizers right now and what they actually need, and get *consent* to resource the work and organizing that is meaningful to them. also, if you have an endowment, give folks SUSTAINED funding. (3/5)

Say #MaKhiaBryant ’s name! I am also thinking about Pamela Turner today, who screamed “I’m pregnant” right before being murdered by police while having a mental health crisis. And Charlena Lyles, who was murdered by the police she called, while experiencing domestic violence.

Wow! I’ve never seen a white, blond woman from Argentina represented on Telemundo, Univision, or any English-speaking show ever before! I -as a Black Latina- feel SO SEEN. what a win for representation! If she can do it, all Black and Indigenous Latinas can! 💪🏽

Yes, what we are witnessing is a horror, and we have to fight, but many have been fighting on the front lines - listen to them. And please don't erase the experiences of Black and Indigenous folks in the US by treating this like a new phenomenon.

She kept trying to remind them that like, half of Celia Cruz’s song were explicitly about Blackness and they kept saying she just “didn’t understand “ the lyrics—it was a “metaphor.” They truly tried to break her Black Latina spirit with the gaslighting and erasure.

Y’all consistently act like Black folks are “stealing something that belongs to you”, and as if they are mutually exclusive categories to be pitted against one another, while ignoring folks like Indya Moore, MJ Rodriguez, Gina Torres, Tessa Thompson, Judy Reyes, and many more.
