Asking what some of the unintended consequences of editors' invisibility may be in @ConversationEDU. With thanks to this piece's editor, @jocaseau for thoughtful feedback and improvements.

We've signed onto this open letter coordinated by the Gun Safety Alliance. The NSW Conservation Hunting Bill threatens public safety, risks poor animal welfare outcomes, undermines conservation efforts & erodes our globally respected firearm laws. https://t.co/YW1XnAVI3C

Thanks for reaching out @WoodsideEnergy! Can you tell us: 1. Is the ATO wrong to say Woodside paid $0 corporate tax in FY 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 on $27.8 billion income? 2. Is Australian Treasury wrong to say that no gas export (LNG) project has ever paid PRRT? (Woodside

SA communities and businesses shouldn’t be forced to bear the costs of climate disasters, such as the algal bloom. Coal and gas companies should pay for the harm they cause, otherwise we all foot the bill. Check out @TheAusInstitute ad in @theTiser today!

My take on the latest legislation on housing affordability that passed as part of the mad rush in the Senate this week. More housing policy that will do nothing while the housing crisis gets worse. https://t.co/yYwJZ58rdn

The South Australian Legislative Council is apparently passing the public funding/partial donation ban bill tonight - just hours after it was introduced. Before any South Australian who is not in Parliament gets to read it. So much for increasing trust in politics.

Is it churlish to be grumpy at the prospect of having to pay an accountant to do my tax? I’m not that complicated, and thought I had a reasonable level of comprehension, but PSI seems to be tipping me over the edge.

My aesthetic beliefs are perfectly aligned with my political beliefs bc both value pluralism. You can wear a traditional coat and tie if you want, or not! But there are parameters to learning how to speak well. You can't just smash letters together and expect to communicate.

Is this the standard now? Unpredictability enough of a reason to block a protest? And climate unpredictability. Well, let's not worry about that. https://t.co/VFgukLwlHe

The activism group has recruited the likes of Peter Garrett for the demonstration, which has been promoted as a "protestival" designed to block access to the coal port.

"But it’s also clearly the case that voters were wildly dissatisfied with Biden’s presidency and with years of acute inflation felt disproportionately by the working and middle classes—the very groups who, in key states, swung to Trump in 2024."
