The CRF-R1 and -R2 modulated #anxiety-like behavior in a sex-dependent manner! CRF acted anxiogenic in male rats only, while UCN3 increased anxiety-like behavior in famale rats, regardless of the reproductive state. #sexdifferences 3/5.

We characterized the role of the CRF and OXT systems in the NacSh in maternal #neglect, as well as sex-dependent #anxiety-like behavior. CRF infusion in the NAcSh reduced maternal care, while the acute inhibition of the CRF receptor 1 (CRF-R1) impaired maternal motivation. 2/5.

New paper out and open access in @NeuropharmJ! .I’m happy to share another piece of the puzzle about the role of the CRF and OXT systems in the nucleus accumbens shell (NacSh) in the postpartum period. You can read it here: 🧵1/5

In line witth findings in mice, the NAc shell of female rats receives CRF inputs from the mPFC, BLA, PV, dorsolateral entorhinal and perirhinal cortex, and ventral subiculum (7/8).

CRF-R2 are mainly expressed in the rostral NAc on MSN, and their expression on GABAergic interneurons increases towards the caudal pole (6/8).

In lactating rats, CRF-R1 are predominantly expressed on medium-sized spiny neurons (MSN) in the medial NAc, while they are mostly located on GABAergic interneurons in the rostral part of the NAc (5/8).

CRF induces both oxytocin and dopamine release, while Urocortin3 triggers dopamine release, with a different pattern compared to CRF (4/8).
