4. Consult on ALL patients. Emphasis on E&M. Should be > 15-20%. Decomp cirrhotic & “para request” -> CPT 99253. Eval freq of paras, diuretic dosage, h/o SBP, variceal status & HCC screening. F/u in clinic. Order labs, imaging, referral to GI (all value added to hospital).

In other words, avoid unnecessary procedures by consulting on ALL patients. Will lead to decrease in length of hospital stay & will drive up the ratio of Outpatient / Inpatient cases. Avoid inpt procedures that don’t fall under the DRG and move them to the outpatient setting. 3/.

👍Drs Baheti & Hawkins. My 2 ¢. 1. “Subsidy” must die. Places you at a disadvantage when negotiating w/ c-suite. Implies you don’t do enough for the hospital to warrant your salary & rather are a necessary burden on the system. It’s flawed as it’s solely rooted in wRVU. 1/.
