On 16 November, surrounded by dear friends & family, challenged by a scientifically rigorous yet unfailingly kind committee, and supported by the best supervisors I could have ever hoped for, I successfully defended my #PhD thesis at the University of Amsterdam.

& that's why ed on #researchintegrity should be mandatory 👀.I'll never forget 1 answer I got re: why a research integrity course was mandatory for #PhDs but not faculty: "Faculty don't want to have to take it" 🥴 Because good research integrity always starts from the bottom /s.

I do know that some labs are excellent. I have been in excellent labs. But until all labs meet at least a minimum standard for workplace safety & culture, brilliant scientists will continue to be pushed out of the academic system.
