Congrats to my undergrad RA, Zihan Tang, for presenting work at the University of Toronto's Research Opportunities Program poster fair πŸŽ‰ Across two adult studies, we show that the end of history illusion transcends self-perception and extends across generational time⏰

We find that people think their values & personalities are distinct from their parents (accepting past generational change) yet similar to their children (resisting future generational change). Next, we hope to explore the mechanisms behind the asymmetrical perceptions of change!

Across 2 studies, we explored whether there is a "generational end of history illusion", in which adults would report more similarity to their children than to their parents. πŸ‘Ά > πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦° > πŸ‘΅ 2/3🧡

During the program, I mentored 5 amazing high school students (Ashmeet, Ayesha, Hemen, Leena, & Tazkia) who, in only 2 weeks, developed a novel research proposal investigating how children think about intent when there’s evidence or no evidence.🧡2/3

Excited that the latest work from my lab, led by @alexa_sacchi, with @jessicasah99 & Melissa Finlay, is out today! We found that children aged 4-11 show the "end of history illusion" for themselves, but a "beginning of history illusion" for others. 1/x https://t.co/DLDe4cMelA

Our findings suggest that children ages 4-11 show the end of history illusion for themselves, but not for others. As our title alludes, we've found that children believe they will be forever young. Many thanks to @socphilpsych, the @starlabuoft team, & my RA, Jessica Sah 3/3 🧡

When thinking about other same-age peers, children report others will change more in the future than they have changed in the past. This showed an opposite illusion, in which older children believe others have changed even *less* in the past than younger children do. 2/3 🧡

Very grateful to present this work with @chris_starmans at #SPP2024!⭐️Across 3 studies we find that kids show the end of history illusion, reporting their preferences have changed in the past but will remain the same in the future. BUT another illusion emerged for others πŸ‘€1/3 🧡
