6. BUT here the community stands up. Our weekly #MDT was solemn out of respect but also full of the collateral joy that comes with working here. The team was supporting the young people who, despite the socio-economic hardships of coming from generations of HD families. .

5. that has built up in the town, and who saw him daily to his end with a pressure care plan in place, the care was eroded by poverty and a lack of choice. This is the reality for many with neurodegenerative disease (and others) in #LATAM. .

4. Sadly, one gentleman became gravely ill and died earlier this week. Complications secondary to HD but exacerbated by initially neglect, malnutrition and pressure sores. Although we have the most incredible Team who gently educated his family around the fatalism. .

3. For those of you who have read my previous posts (here and elsewhere) – power cuts are a daily event anyway and that includes internet and other forms of communication. Needless to say when we can get through, we emphasise their safety. .

2. in Venezuela its rainy season which means that our colleagues and their families are regularly flooded out. Unfortunately, its also meant that the road to Barranquitas has been blocked on a number of occasions and so the medical field trip has had to be cancelled
