I'd definitely prefer a more explicit API - magic is cool when it hides repetitive behavior the user doesn't need to worry about (react compiler), not cool when it makes it harder to reason about logic you write, is untyped/undocumented in code/changes language feature behavior.
Explicit >>> magic, and the difference between `๐๐๐๐.๐๐๐()` and "๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ " is huge. We shipped implicit IDs when we created the ๐๐๐๐.๐๐๐ API in 2022. Switched to explicit APIs within months. Here's why: โ No magic compilation. What you write is

It's a solution to share business logic, not a cross-platform UI framework. They have some future ideas for that it seems, worth to read this PR

Could understand it as an Android fallback to have a coherent design language, but shipping custom liquid glass on iOS feels like a mistake. This coming from a design team that usually doesn't miss, so maybe there is something to it.
Linear Mobile, refined. Built with a new custom frosted glass material for added depth and contrast. Available today for your cellular device.

It's no accident all Expo SDK packages are supported day 1 on Vega OS ๐
At @swmansion we're not only an official Vega supported agency, but also had the incredible opportunity to work with Amazon on Vega OS development. We'll share some more details and case studies soon ๐

This. expo-ui is not the end goal, it's an escape hatch/native access layer that we or the community can use for native-feeling component systems down the line.
itโs been a while since i last used x. itโs hard to balance time between work and different social networks like bluesky, x, and so on. btw, the other day i listened to the podcast from @betomoedano and @schlimmson about expo ui, and i had some thoughts. surprisingly, people

This is pretty impactful. Improvements to screens trickle down to react-navigation, expo-router and then to consumer RN apps across the entire ecosystem. @kacperkapusciak I'd read "The Art of Mobile Development" though โ you should write it for real.
React Native Screens will provide Native Split View ๐ Coming soon to your favorite navigation libraries!

Pretty cool interview, worth listening to @miblanchard chatting with @grabbou on how the NFL app is moving to @expo. ๐expo-image was the first Expo offering the NFL app adopted, with that pushing them towards fingerprint, repack, CNG... โ glad to see this value-add!
NFL engineering doesnโt get extensions because kickoff & Super Bowl donโt move ๐ย In the latest React Universe On Air, @grabbou talks with @miblanchard (@NFL) about how React Native powers apps across mobile, web, and TV. Key takeaways in this thread ๐ 00:00 Welcome to the

Hey @typescript ๐ Can we have someone take a look at this long-standing issue? ๐ This is becoming an increasingly common problem as more and more packages are shipping with only the TS code as many environments are now capable of stripping the types.

Can't wait for the future where some AI will judge dev productivity for performance reviews based off of individual PRs. Only a slightly less dumb metric than LOC written - seems on par with where we're heading after the "replace all devs" bubble finally dies off.
Hearing reports of one big tech firm requiring developer productivity to at least 3x or VPs get fired. Basically slash your headcount 70% or 3x KPIs or get fired yourself. Using all the dumb goodharted metrics like lines of code written etc

Friends in Germany, now is the time to apply pressure on your government.
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EUโs Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. https://t.co/015qmQnIS2

Still in progress, but I like how you can use a Shape both as a React component and as a prop :)
