It’s already illegal to harass or abuse retail workers. What we need is proper enforcement of our existing laws. Not new ones. We also need to change our stupid defamation laws which often prevent retail workers from challenging suspected shoplifters for fear of being sued.

Retail workers should not face abuse for doing their jobs. 70% have experienced intimidation. Theft is up 18%. We need a standalone offence for crimes against retail staff. Scotland introduced these protections. We should too.
