The Prozac generation was emotionally depleted. Now it seems we have another problem. We are emotionally saturated. It’s not that our souls are too empty. They’re too full. So full they’re numb. Enter the Psalms: an ancient guide to emotional health.

We are kicking off a digital fast today @southlandsbrea, so I’ll be off social media for the next 28 days. Wonderful to start the year off with baptism. May his new life set us free from the others of the world and transform us through the renewing of our minds.

Having walked closely with a few Christian celebrities over the years, this is a massive issue. Christian’s celebrities desperately need to become normal members of healthy churches. And churches need to become more healthy places for Christian celebrities.
There's a word conspicuously absent from Philip Yancey's confession of nearly a decade of unrepentantly dishonoring the Lord and fornicating and violating his marriage vows: church. https://t.co/BKkHPeRPoS

It’s still outrageous to me that Jesus told his disciples it was for their advantage that He was going. How can that be? His answer, “If I leave I will send you the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.”(Jn 17) Jesus, was ‘God with us.” The Holy Spirit is “God in us.” That’s the advantage

The world tells you to be true to yourself. But the Christian asks, “To which self am I to be true?” For there are two selves within us, the old and the new self. Only through the Spirit of Christ can we discern the self we are to deny and the self we are to affirm.

Post of the day: “I don’t think it’s extreme to say the less you’re on a screen the happier and healthier you will feel. It’s like stepping out of artificial office light into the warmth of the sun.” https://t.co/1Oef4HUFTI

A key text in my book: “Jesus cast out spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, ‘He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.’”(Matt 8:17) While healing may not be *in the atonement, it is *from the atonement.

Lately I’ve heard a lot of preachers say ‘Watch this!’ before they make a stellar point. It seems performative to me, like something you would say before you do a magic trick. Perhaps better to say, “I’m amazed at this.” Draws attention to the text and away from your mad skills?

Love this interchange. Respectful. Helpful. Gracious. Do you have your other 38 preaching principles @daneortlund ?
@RebeccMcLaugh Thanks, Rebecca. God bless you. 1. I think I got hung up on your category "stories" and missed "and metaphors." My fault. I was trained in homiletics to use lived-body long-form stories in preaching (3 per sermon) and I have moved away from that for a number of reasons (I use

“Even if I’m poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial offering of your faith, I’m glad and rejoice with you all.” Phil 2:17-18 2 offerings. A leader poured out so that people can more fully say to God,”All of me for all of you, by faith.” The joyful goal of ministry. 🎯
