For those interested in a take on @ZohranKMamdani and his win in the NYC Dem primary, check out my new book from @UChicagoPress. Pre-order for September release! It's definitely NOT a TLDR, but the short of it is his economic vision isn't going far.
press.uchicago.edu
A nuanced reassessment of US democratic responsiveness and public opinion on economic policy that explores the real reasons government does not do more to mitigate inequality. Many believe that the...

Been distracted and off X for a while. But passing along John Hood's recent CJ piece on Jackson & tariffs is worth getting back on.

Once Andrew Jackson clearly signaled an American shift toward freer trade, Britain reciprocated by opening its territories to American merchants.

I have a new piece in National Affairs about the Democrats' democracy agenda.

Democracy is a central feature of Democrats' 2024 electoral campaign. The party has worked to present its proposals on that front as designed to reject Donald Trump's authoritarian narcissism and...

I understand the criticism of Secret Service. But I haven't seen any assessment of the Trump campaign's advance team. The rally was in an open field in rural PA and set up to be much smaller than his usual events (presumably affecting the distance between perimeter and stage).
What we saw Saturday was the worst security failure for a president since JFK Someone needs to RESIGN - and Secretary Mayorkas and the head of Secret Service need to testify in public, under oath

On its 80th anniversary, D-Day still matters https://t.co/nK86GzL6Hu via @CarolinaJournal #DDay #ncpol

The absence of major events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day in North Carolina's capital makes it clear we've lost sight of the importance of this key victory over totalitarianism.

My son's 20th birthday tomorrow reminds me of so many anniversaries. Today marks 20 years since Ronald Reagan's passing, tomorrow 80 years since D-Day. Children are such a gift, not least because they keep us invested in the future and help us recall our debts to the past.

"The pipes were motivating them, snapping them out of their fear." This is Piper Bill Millin's extraordinary story of bravery, told by his son, John. #DDay80

The neoliberal era is not ending in the US, because over the long term, political success rests on a foundation of policy success, and the “post-neoliberal” policies embraced by Trump and Biden are not succeeding. From AEI's @MichaelRStrain. https://t.co/mor3rd4EjM

This article is about a published author who opened a bookstore to make available books that had been banned in Florida. I think someone should open a bookstore to make available books banned by editors and publishing houses.
