Was really pleased
@simonmurrayy
agreed to talk about his wee one’s autism diagnosis. It’s obviously been a stressful couple of years for the Murray clan, but also it’s a reminder in an industry so rife with abuse and judgement that footballers are human.
I don't remember ever hearing a manager as angry in a post-match interview as Derek Adams was today. Not just attacking his team, but the entirety of Scottish football. He was not impressed at all.
Like a lot of you, I can get a little obsessed with
@FootballManager
. So when Ross County researcher
@AFC_CM
followed me on here, I took the opportunity to find out a bit more about what goes into bringing the Staggies to life in the game…
Still not over yesterday’s match - not sure I will be for a while - and looking back through pics to put this together put a smile on my face all over again. If you were at the game, can you spot yourself in any of these?
Amid all of the (rightful) euphoria around Ross County's play-off win, it was almost lost that 16yo Jamie Williamson made his senior debut and didn't look out of place. Here's County's head of professional academy Gary Warren take on the teenager.
One more word on just how good Declan McManus was today. For someone who hasn’t had a run in the starting 11 since the very start of the match, he was outstanding. Both of County’s goals were down to his hard work and creativity, and he was unlucky not to get a goal himself
Good news County fans - Malky Mackay expects to get a loan over the line in the next 24 hours. Player should be in the squad to face Motherwell. One departure expected imminently too.
I was a bit lost for words to have won last night, so apologies if I’m rambling in this 😅 And for reference, I’ll link the articles I entered (all three of them this time!) below 👇
It's not often a player leaves a club with this kind of positivity from all parties involved, but Robbie Deas is being hailed by Caley Thistle after playing his last game for them in the Scottish Cup final.
After missing the semi final through injury, it was great to see Roddy MacGregor come on as a substitute for Caley Thistle at Hampden yesterday. Spoke to him afterwards, and he hopes that this cup run can light a fire under ICT going into next season.
History is going to be made next week as
@InvergordonFC
enter the
@ScottishCup
for the first time as
@NorthCaleyFA
champions - and their "home" ground for the day could be a top flight stadium... 👀
Just out of an hour long chat with Scot Gardiner about the manager’s situation at Caley Thistle. Loads of stuff going to be coming your way soon
@ICTSupTrst
@TheICTPodcast
Ross County working on two deals today. One is a loan that Malky Mackay rates as being 50/50 right now, the other he says is pretty much a done deal - but doesn't need to be done today/tonight since that one is a free agent. No names as yet, but will have something online soon.
Encouraging to hear Malky Mackay talk to positively about Regan Charles-Cook's morale in training the last day or two, and about the planned minute's applause for him in tonight's game against Aberdeen. Also took the chance to ask about taking the knee 👇
Not a bad way to start the year! Delighted to have been shortlisted for feature writer of the year at the
@HIPBMA
through my work with
@PrideofTerraces
. Fingers crossed now for the start of next month 🤞
Goal! 4-2 for
@ICTFC
and Jordan White has a hat trick! Austin was one on one with the keeper, but Moir won the ball. Unfortunately for him White was the first one to it, so he had an open goal to finish into
Another thing to note on County today - last season Rangers conceded 13 league goals. The Staggies have scored seven in three games against them this season. This County side aren't just mentally strong when hit by setbacks, they're fearless and have quality going forward.
An intriguing addition to Ross County - someone who is clearly reliable in terms of availability and creative in the final third if last season is anything to go by - maybe even a dead ball specialist? Also has overcome serious injury to continue playing.
Know I’ve said this before, but it really is remarkable how different the outlook is for Ross County right now compared to just a couple of months ago. Huge turnaround, and the players and staff deserve huge credit for that
I'll admit, two and a half years ago when Brian Graham told us Ross Stewart could play for Scotland (link below), I was skeptical. He's only gone and done it! Great to see his development from starting out at Ross County to where he is now
Ross County manager Malky Mackay did confirm after the match that two players missed the trip to Aberdeen for internal disciplinary reasons. Would not elaborate with any more details than that
Fully expected Zander and Lloyd to be on this shortlist, but did not expect to be there myself at all! Great company to be in, best of luck to all involved ☺️
Really enjoyed chatting to one of
@ICTFC
’s latest debutants Robbie Thompson about getting his chance in the first team, and how time on loan at
@clachfc
helped him develop as a player to be ready for the opportunity.
In Dingwall for Ross County’s Premiership match against Livingston - kick off has been delayed by 15 minutes after the Livi coach broke down at Daviot.
Will have more on this later from Malky Mackay, but good news for Ross County fans - William Akio will be back in the squad for Wednesday’s Premier Sports Cup tie against Celtic in Dingwall.
Understand Ross County will be facing a fine over the pitch invasion by Celtic fans tonight. When it's that many people, I'm not entirely sure what else the stewards and police could have done...
I promised more on the
@RCFC_Academy
a little while back, and here it is. We talked a lot last season about the youngsters breaking into senior football in Dingwall - are Ross County on the cusp of a golden generation? Here are Gary Warren's thoughts.
Striking how different that Ross County performance was tonight to years gone by. How long have we spoken about them being vulnerable to conceding a few when one goes in, even with 11 men? Not anymore. Stepped up a gear with 10 and they just seem to be getting better all the time
Of course after two weeks of asking about it this gets announced the first day of my holiday 😂 Anyways, Ross County have finally signed that free agent!
Ross County fans! I had a lot of fun putting together a little quiz to test out how much you remember about the 2021/22 season. So far, the people I've tested it out on got 5/15. Can you do better? Tag friends and let me know!
Said it to one or two people yesterday - if County got a home draw and avoided the Glasgow giants in the quarter finals, they should back themselves. It won't be easy by any means, but it's a huge prize at stake if they can win this one.
Said this before, but I'm a big fan of the business Ross County has done so far in this transfer window. Think it sets them up really well, and the importance of getting deals done early is not lost on manager Malky Mackay either.
Always enjoyed talking to Dan MacKay over the years, he has a really good head on his shoulders and on his day has been a game-changer for Caley Thistle. Great goal in today’s cup final to sign off, and I really hope we see him shine in the Premiership.
First time chatting with Derek Adams at the Ross County pre-Kilmarnock press conference this afternoon. Stories to follow on the
@InvCourier
and
@Rossnews
…
It always feels like
@ICTFC
have more of a threat about them when James Keatings is on the pitch. That influence in his debut campaign for the club is part of the reason he’s my player of the season for Caley Thistle - what do you think?
One week on from parting company with Ross County, Malky Mackay has released a statement via the League Managers' Association on his departure from the Staggies.
As ever, more on this later, but Malky Mackay is still hoping to pull off three more deals in this window - and he’s not hedging bets (ie he’s not working on one in case another doesn’t come off), he’s looking to get all of them over the line. Could be an announcement imminently.
Couldn't wait any longer to put this week's episode of the podcast out, so here it is! I promised you a special episode, and this one is focusing on the
#RainbowLaces
campaign with a little help from Sirri Topping
@LEAPsports
and Malky Mackay
@RossCounty
It was fantastic to speak to Caley Thistle boss John Robertson this week about
@stonewalluk
’s
#RainbowLaces
campaign. He was hearteningly passionate about it, so go check out the article to see what he said!
"It has never been a subject for me that would cause any problems - it never has done, and it shouldn't. It doesn't make me a saint, it doesn't make me a trailblazer."
Caley Thistle manager John Robertson shares his support for the…
Yeah… still not over this, and expect I won’t be for a while. Apologies to anyone I come across for like the next month, because this is probably all I’ll wanna talk about. Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done.
Thought I’d try something a bit different to follow up on Ross County’s match against Celtic yesterday! Bit of analysis, bit of reaction. Let me know what you think (ie if I’m talking rubbish 😂) and if you’d like this to become a more regular feature!
One last look back at the Scottish Cup final, this time with Caley Thistle star David Carson. I think we can all agree with his sentiments - ICT certainly did themselves proud.
Christ guys give me a chance 😂 3 hours and 40 minutes between
@staggiesview
and
@thecountycorner
to listen to before match day, some effort to do this kinda thing on a regular basis 👏👏👏 You’re spoiled County fans
After the way he ended the season, it's no real surprise to see Alex Samuel sign a new deal to stay at Ross County. If he can keep up the performance level he showed during the run-in, he could be a real asset to the Staggies next season.
I’m June vandals broke into
@clachfc
’s Grant Street Park and broke some of the seats in their stand. They have finally been replaced, and with a little Premiership help along the way…
Really disappointing to see this.
@clachfc
are a great club, and the last thing anyone needs is to be thinking about security and shelling out for replacement seats when the focus should purely be on football.
Ever wondered what it’s like to manage in a relegation battle? This is the article for you! I chatted about lots of different aspects of that challenge - the pressure, man management, tactics and the personal impact - with ex-County boss Stuart Kettlewell.
Who's ready for some stats? I plotted the times of Ross County's goals conceded (first pic) and goals scored (second pic) in the Premiership so far this season, because yes, I am a nerd. For reference, the x-axis is the number of the goal, so the most recent are towards the right
Ross County fans, I'm curious. This week marks a year since Malky Mackay was appointed manager. There was obviously a huge reaction to his arrival, so a year on: what do you think about him now? Can go by any criteria, on pitch, off pitch, whatever.
@RCFC_SLO
@staggiesview
Have been told that both Caley Thistle and Ross County have completed their business for the transfer window. ICT wanted two more this week and got two in, and I understand Derek Adams was trying for another in Dingwall but has had to settle for the one deadline day signing.
Looks like a pretty cool workshop happening in Inverness this weekend to help the LGBTQ+ community in the Highlands use their voice more in political spheres!
@PrideHighland
@Emma_Roddick
For Ross County fans concerned about Ben Purrington going off injured, there is mixed news - Malky Mackay said after full time that Purrington is in a boot as a precaution, but it shouldn't leave too much of a gap in the side as George Harmon is already back in training.
I have been extremely lucky in my journey so far - a quick glance through the descriptions of other episodes will tell you that - so it's very, very cool to have my story alongside so many incredible people on this amazing podcast.
NEW EPISODE DAY!! Andrew thought that being bisexual was a phase. He eventually came out very publicly in a newspaper!

What a couple of days to return to work. Given some recent headlines, I was asked to put some thoughts down on being LGBT+ in Scotland - here's what I came up with.
The second article in my wee series looking into what makes
@camanachd
tick, this time with
@InvernessShinty
’s Jeya Calder! This one was an absolute pleasure, and I think really sums up the community spirit of shinty clubs.
Oh by the way, I have an in-depth interview looking at what it’s like to be in charge of a club in a relegation battle dropping tomorrow morning. One to look out for.
Over the last few months, I've gone from having conversations about this in the pub to working on an article and pulling together viewpoints from
@ARGHighland
and
@Emma_Roddick
- and this morning I was finally able to hit publish on the end product.
There have been talks over a new deal for Regan Charles-Cook at Ross County. Doesn’t mean he’s definitely staying, or that he’s definitely going, but the league’s top scorer is clearly loving life in Dingwall right now. One of several the club are talking to about extensions.
Really pleased for
@HitmanHouston90
signing with
@BellatorMMA
, should be a great move for both parties. The chance to win titles quickly is obviously a big motivating factor for Ross, and he says the deal is a life-changing one for him.

Signing off tonight for some long overdue annual leave. Will be popping back on every now and then to share stories I have lined up over the next week or so, but otherwise think I'll generally be trying to stay away from social media as much as I can.
Youth programmes are often one of the first things to be cut back by sports clubs in times of financial uncertainty, but
@HighlandRFC
are making a point of investing in youth after getting awarded funding from a supermarket giant
Oh aye, I got some executive level thoughts on the pressure Malky Mackay is facing at Ross County right now. That’ll be on
@InvCourier
and
@Rossnews
first thing in the morning.
An update from Malky Mackay on Josh Sims and Josh Reid - plus some chat about Jack Baldwin after his red card against Aberdeen, and Eamonn Brophy, who missed the midweek match altogether.
Congrats to Victor Loturi who finally made his Canada debut earlier this week! His international exploits may mean it's a wee while before Ross County fans see him in action again though - details on when that might be and the other absentees at Nairn here
Really delighted to see
@RossCounty
proactively putting this out to mark the start of
#RainbowLaces2022
. Need more clubs doing this off their own backs
It's not slowing down in Dingwall, as Ross County have made their third signing of the summer! One thing to note that I'm sure will please a lot of fans - all three signings have been permanent ones so far.
Some effort from Megan Keith, who recorded her second best ever time over the 5000m in the World Athletics Championship heats. Wasn't to be for her this time, but she has every reason to hold her head high.
@InvHarriersAAC
@RossKCairns1

Ross County have bolstered their defensive options with their latest recruit on a permanent deal from Blackburn Rovers. Feeling good about this one Staggies fans?
It's been 18 months since
@HighlandRFC
last played league games, and although they've kept most of the same squad - barring a couple of ins and outs - it feels like there will be an unknown element going into most matches in the 2021/22 season.
Nothing major to report transfer-wise today from the latest Ross County press conference. Still hopeful of a deal or two before tomorrow night’s deadline, but highly unlikely any new signing features against Hibernian.
If people aren’t going to be seeing tweets, where do people that follow me for ICT/Ross County/other work updates want me to migrate to? Keen to ensure stuff isn’t getting missed but not sure what would reach most people.

Worth noting that County also got a bonus from Sunderland staying in the championship last season. Were three parts to the add-ons - Sunderland going up to the Championship, Sunderland staying up and a sell-on. Had already off-set some of the spending.
I’ve had the idea for this story for nearly seven years, so I’m absolutely delighted to finally have pulled pieces together to get it published. Inside
