it was a huge pain. but we're so happy we took the hard path and built our own billing engine from scratch. it's given us so more freedom to model the problem on our own terms, according to our vision.
we've been off stripe billing since february. we realized we couldn't build our primitives on the backs of someone else's abstractions.

2025 and stripe still forces people to use webhook sync instead of letting them directly read a user's billing status now there are entire companies starting just to fix this
