Eight new DJs will graduate from their class at Miyagi Records Saturday by spinning sets for a daylong party at the South Side shop. The next 6-week session opens in late August, while a new beatmaking class launches in September.

Grants that helped grow Lost Boyz Inc., a South Shore youth sports nonprofit, are coming to an end — with no immediate replacements for that funding in sight. Leaders are turning to a fundraiser to sustain programs while they seek more stable income.

Council president Ana Sokovic blames Ald. Greg Mitchell for pressuring Park District officials to block the event, which the agency neither confirmed nor denied. I couldn't confirm with Mitchell — a staffer said his next availability for a brief interview was "like, December.".

After a kayak night last year, Rainbow Beach's park council president applied to run it back. Within days — rather than the stated 2-week review period — the Park District blocked it, citing safety concerns about simultaneous events in the 142-acre park.

For the past three months, kids in Bret Harte Elementary's science club have used robotics kits, Lego sets, 3D printing pens and their creativity to design a lunar habitat. The students presented their projects to NASA personnel this week.
