A (mostly) statistical thread on why Lionel Andrés Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo and the greatest footballer to ever grace this planet: a thread. (Likes and RTs appreciated)

But the stats are actually in Messi’s favour. Ronaldo’s 785 goals have come in 1075 appearances, giving him a ratio of 0.73 goals per game. Whilst Messi has scored less goals (748), he has 145 less appearances than Ronaldo. This gives him a superior goals per game ratio of 0.8.

I was sleeping when I saw a strange figure in the corner of my room, it looked like it was a ghost. When I turned the lights on I saw it was none other than CHARLES LECHOKE. I was scared at first, but then I yelled “BIG RACE”. He disappeared.

So… Fraudstappen* has:
His favourite corrupt race director daddy Masi
His team breaking the cost cap rules
Christian Cryner pressuring the FIA
Alpha Tauri getting safety cars for him
A rocket ship for a car…
… and he still has 0 legitimate WDCs?
Not top 10 in my book

Ronaldo’s record-breaking tally of goals also leads to the misconception that he is the purer finisher. Since the 2009/2010 season, Messi has scored 523 goals from 2,654 shots. By comparison, Ronaldo has scored less goals- 511 – from 636 more shots on goal.
1. Goals
The main purpose of an attacker in football is to score goals. And Messi is a clinical scorer of them. However, Ronaldo is widely (and incorrectly) considered as the better goal scorer, with his 785 goals being the most in football history.
He also bests the Portuguese when looking at it from minutes per goal- Messi averages a goal every 102 minutes, whereas Ronaldo averages a goal every 111 minutes.
3. Dribbling
Messi’s low centre of gravity, silky ball control and quick feet make him the game’s greatest dribbler. He has scored some of the greatest goals of all time- vs Real Madrid in the UCL semi-final and vs Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final.
This means that on average, Messi scores a goal every 5.07 shots. Ronaldo- 6.44 shots. The Argentine also bests his rival on shot accuracy- 48.1% of Messi’s shots are on target compared to Ronaldo’s 41.2%.

Looking at the 2 using expected goals (xG), Messi again comes out on top. Since the 2014/15 season, Messi has scored 231 goals from 192.37 xG- an over-performance of 38.63 goals. This is compared to Ronaldo’s 215 goals from 210.08 xG- an over-performance, but by only 4.92 goals.
2. Assists and playmaking
Messi also adds an elite playmaking ability and a mountain of assists to his bucket load of goals. He has recorded a staggering 315 assists across his career- the most in football history- averaging 0.34 assists per game.
Messi’s 54 hat-tricks does trail Ronaldo’s tally of 57- but Messi has played 145 less games than the Manchester United forward. This means that on average, Messi scores a hat-trick every 17.2 games, compared to Ronaldo’s hat-trick every 18.9 games.

Penalties. Bottling. Crashing. Crying.
Long ago, the four lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when Hamilton attacked. Only FRAUDstappen, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when his team needed him most, he vanished.

Lastly, Messi outscores the Madeiran even when each player’s penalty goals are taken away- Messi’s 648 non penalty goals to Ronaldo’s 646. Ronaldo is the more clinical penalty taker with a higher conversion rate, but this also means more of his goals are from penalties- 17.7%.
