My aunt died of Covid at noon today. Lungs filled up with fluid. It only took 8 days from positive diagnosis to death. Nobody was allowed in the ICU. Nurse held up a phone so we could say goodbye to her via FaceTime. Arranging a Zoom funeral now. Take this pandemic seriously.

My oldest auntie, my 89 year old Auntie Milagros, was brought to the ER in Las Vegas this morning after testing positive for covid-19 two weeks ago. She’s been in quarantine for 4 months but still caught it. She was placed on a ventilator and I’m told things aren’t looking good.

Why did the US do this? Easy answer. Colonial exploitation. The US wanted to get their hands on the sugarcane. They also wanted to expand their consumer base by forcing millions of Filipinos to purchase US goods. It was a one-way economic relationship. /5

Before my mom passed away 9 yrs ago, she set up a scholarship fund in the Philippines for aspiring nurses. Today I learned that all 9 young women who received aid have graduated from nursing school and were successfully placed in FT nursing positions in my mother’s home country.

I know I’m late but I finally listened to this episode on how the right-wing harnessed country music. It’s one of their best and I also recommend reading Aaron Leonard’s book Folk Singers and the Bureau, which is about how the FBI repressed left-wing folk music and culture.

This, exactly this. DEI Hollywood types are not creatives, movie lovers or filmmakers. They don’t watch anything and they only know YA stories from the 2000s. They should not be listened to.
it occurs to me that people who preach values of inclusivity and diversity also just…don’t watch movies from other places. I don’t think that’s ironic or hypercritical or anything. but it’s just…odd.

The Philippines was never truly independent. In 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo sold out the revolution and the Filipino people to the U.S. for P400,000. The U.S. granted us our fake independence on July 4th to establish their colonial grip of Philippine society that continues today.
