#Comment | On May 20, the Supreme Court restored a minimum of three years of legal practice as a mandatory condition to apply for entry-level judicial service. The ruling reverses the Court’s 2002 decision that had removed the practice requirement, originally mandated by a 1993

Short Book Review: Small Boat by Vincent Delecroix. A 4.5 out of 5 for me. 0.5 mark less, and that too only because it simply wasn’t long enough. No great book ever is. I said the same thing after reading the 1500 page The Suitable Boy. But this one’s actually very short. About

My take on the recent SC judgment on mandatory three years practice: . 1. I can speak from experience that young, idealistic and extremely talented youth aspire to be adjudicators. Telling them to park the aspiration for 3 years and enter practice instead may hurt this aspiration.

Grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to a matter that truly mattered. These 380 teachers (termed 'contract teachers') had long been denied equal pay for equal work and basic dignity. Despite almost a decade of service, they were being paid only 31k a month.

The judiciary has neither the sword nor the purse. Its only real power is people's confidence. Everything it does (or doesn't) must preserve that legitimacy - or it risks losing the very ground it stands on. And that would be the end of Rule of Law as we know it.

In a democracy, whenever legislature & executive falter, the judiciary must step up. Especially, when there's violation of fundamental rights & erosion of basic structure. Judicial activism isn't overreach—. it's Constitution in action, safeguarding rights & ensuring justice.

Constitutional silences are - actually - very telling and eloquent. They speak the language of basic structure which is the very soul of our Constitution.

I review for Scroll - a very insightful book written by @Preddy85 and @j_chitrakshi. This book is a must read for anyone interested in understanding how the justice system (and trial courts, especially) work (or doesn’t) in India. . @scroll_in.

Another important verdict where the Court honourably acquitted the accused who was falsely implicated. Highlights the importance of WhatsApp chats & electronic evidence. Love relationship gone sour: Court; acquits IAF man in rape case via @timesofindia.

Another important verdict in a S. 376 trial yesterday by a Patiala House Court. An acquittal in what was clearly a false implication. The Court did not only 'acquit' the accused but 'honourably acquitted'. This is important as honourably acquitted, in this context, means:.
