There are reports that #CVPR2026 paper IDs have surpassed 30k! #CVPR2025 had 13008 submissions. What do you think the final submission count will be this year?

@wacv_official @CVPR My two cents: it is the conference decision phase, rather than the release of reviews for rebuttal, where one wants them all released at the same time. IMHO, no need to hold decisions for the vast majority for a few missing papers, whose outcomes can be released in due course

The #WACV2026 Program Chairs are still chasing missing reviews and meta-reviews, and as a result, will release decisions either later this week or early next week. We apologize for the delay and will provide updates as we have them.

Not all classrooms have walls. For our interns, Silicon Valley became the ultimate school. In our latest Q&A, Luca and Matteo share what 3 months in the heart of tech taught them β€” and the mindset that changes how you see research forever πŸ‘‡ https://t.co/077c4P1p9s

Fantastic that ICML is only requiring virtual registration for accepted authors. This is far more inclusive and hopefully other conferences will follow suit

Ever wonder why the Chernoff bound feels like magic? A geometric answer: KL divergence loves exponential families. This post shares some reflections β€” and sets up a series on how KL geometry connects classical statistics, online learning (OCO), and more. https://t.co/nScAqj7l8s

It is a good thing that new methods are not being stopped Position papers and surveys, as a remix of existing work, can wait a bit and get a seal of approval to stop the flood

@matloff The underlying challenge is that there is quite a bit of academic misconduct taking place to inflate citation counts. We detect some of it, but we believe there is much more.

@matloff For position papers, maybe we should put them in a separate category and also discourage Google Scholar and SemanticScholar from including citations to/from such papers in any citation metrics.

@natolambert We have released many books and will continue to do so. What would kill arXiv is a high ratio of AI slop to actual research content. Like everyone, we are exploring applying AI tools to help with moderation. If you would like to join this effort, my DMs are open.

When will academia stop wasting each other’s time asking for recommendation letters for promotions, job applications, grant applications, VISA applications? The list is endless. There must be better ways to reveal those few bits of information we want to share about candidates.

One thing AI could learn from physics is to have a clear distinction between theorists and experimentalists. Right now what we have is a lot of experimentalists pretending to be theorists and vice versa.

After reviewing ICCV–NeurIPS–ICLR, I keep seeing two kinds of paper I’m less excited about: 1. Pipelines stitching off-the-shelf modules to hit a metric, but the design is clearly sub-optimal and not the first one in a domain. 2. New benchmarks on niche domains without showing
