Spent a few quiet moments in the place I became I scientist today. This lab is such a big part of my origin story, im so grateful for all the late nights I got to spend here. My Alma mater, BSC shuts down forever on 5/31, so I’m extra grateful I could come back one more time

The sheer pride and joy in my heart to hear my backwoods hometown, Gadsden, Alabama mentioned in the first song of Beyonce’s new album,.

My heart is broken. BSC is an incredible place that changed my life and the lives of so many others. I wouldn’t be the scientist or person I am today without this school. I found my best friends, I found research, I found sisterhood. Forward, Ever, thank you for everything BSC.

Do you ever just think about how insanely complicated cellular life is? the deeper I dive into molecular biology the more I become awe struck that life exists at all. To breathe, move, live, all of it the result of billions of little molecular miracles.

My Denver library card afforded me access to Libby, and it has been a total game changer! This year I listened to 51 books, I haven’t consumed this much literature since I was reading for AR points in elementary school. Seriously, get a library card!

this is a friendly reminder that library cards are free and your local public library will never make you pay extra so you don’t have to watch ads.

My mom discussing grant writing: “idk how it is in science, but in Ed, you basically pick someone else’s idea that worked, pick and new acronym and write about that” . Pretty spot on for science too.

My grandmother passed away today, just a week before I was supposed to be home. Last I saw her she was in good health, and now she is gone. I’m heartbroken.

I have lost all faith in science twitter. I cannot continue to see people ignore, or even worse justify the killing of innocent civilians. It is not worthwhile to stay silent on this matter, because silence is complacency. When we say never again, it means for all peoples!.

I applaud those who are standing up for what is right. It is so disheartening to see the government and scientists I look up to defend literal genocide against the Palestinian people. Hamas is evil yes, but nothing could ever justify this brutality against civilians.

Thank you eLife for sharing these stories. My ADHD and my scientific experience are intricately linked, and this story resonates deeply. I’m thankful more stories like this of neurodivergence in academia will be shared.

I would also like to add the hyperactivity does NOT mean having a lot of energy. Especially in women it can looks like talking a lot, constantly bouncing legs, or needing to fidget with small things. It can also be racing thoughts and anxiety.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ADHD does NOT mean you are hyperactive. While some ADHDers are hyperactive, there’s a whole other presentation of ADHD called Predominantly Inattentive, which is more common in women and doesn’t look hyperactive at all.

Me: oh no, this really isn’t that big of an experiment. It’s manageable . PowerPoint: crashing because I have over 15 animations to explain this one experiment 😅.
