Though our core research is finished, there's more to come: we've some exciting new projects up our sleeve. We hope that you enjoy the fruits of our work, and we hope that it helps to shed some light on some of the hidden professions of television production.

The project was funded by @ERC_Research (🇪🇺❤️) including full grants for two brilliant PhD students - Tim Heath delved into the history of television sound recording, while Rowan Aust researched the shift from analogue to digital film and video editing.

The project was dreamt up by @ProfJohnEllis; videos produced and edited by Amanda Murphy; @nickxhall did the website and wrangled the data; @james_a_bennett and @NikiStrange researched a parallel project on social media in TV production. Full team info:

Great watch for any Quantel Paintbox fans. There's about an hour of footage here where the Paintbox (90s era) V-Series is being demonstrated, as well as some nice reenactments by the original Editors, Directors, Engineers. OB van, U-Matic, VT, and AVID editing etc. etc. ;)
#CSTConfSep2018 Just out: over 130 videos showing ‘How Television Used to be Made’ with website in simple (we hope) terms. Old school TV (and attitudes) all in one place https://t.co/LMpjqlzNhy

"Short form" in TV is "long form" in #SocialTV! Trends are moving towards longer content and TV can take advantage of this. @davidlevin123 Producers also successfully partnering with brands to pitch socially-driven, ad-funded programming.

#SocialTV where are the opportunities for social when TV is "always on"? @KeMaddigan producers increasingly need to think of shows as brands - young audiences want to be part of something all the time. But this is a big change to make.
