Such a great study by my current colleagues, I’m so pleased this has been published! Really interesting evidence to help us reflect on the difference between what we know and what we assume with canine health and breed-related disease.
🐕 We have undertaken the world’s largest study into the health of designer crossbreed dogs & revealed that the health of 3 common designer crossbreeds (Cockapoo, Labradoodle and Cavapoo) is largely similar to their parent purebred breeds. ➡️ Read more at:

My current project, first output: who funds UK canine health and welfare research, where does the money go, what’s it spent on? Lots of data here. Thanks to funders @Battersea_ @DogsTrust @KennelClubTrust @waltham_science Foundation and to all who shared data with us!.
🐕 New research from the RVC, which explored the amount of UK not-for-profit funding for research into canine health and welfare, found that 109 UK funders provided £57.8 million between 2012 and 2022. @acdalison @DogsbodyRVC @CompassVet. ➡️ Read more:

Pleased to have had the opportunity to be a coauthor on this paper, which largely confirms previous understanding of Boxer health - some breed related problems, some problems common in all breeds, fewer brachy related issues than in more extreme brachy breeds. Thanks @CompassVet.
New VetCompass paper on the demography, common disorders & mortality of Boxer dogs in the UK. Cancers were the most common cause of death and the 2nd highest disorder, in agreement with previous research, suggesting cancer as a health priority in Boxers. 👉

We have a new garden pond. Lots Of Things have appeared in it, and I have no clue what they are. Suspended in green fluff, they are all the same, 5mm spiky segmented ovals. Animal or plant? Help please! @juleslhoward @ThatVetSean @LeafyHistory any ideas? Thank you!

Why, thank you! A case study in the value of @VetHumanitiesUK ?!.
Finally got around to listening to @acdalison's appearance on the @FunctionalDogs podcast. I'd really recommend it — there are few who can discuss such a nuanced and thorny subject like short-faced dog health as thoughtfully and engagingly as Alison.

This is my research project! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻If you’re reading this and linked to a U.K. organisation that funds canine health and welfare research, please get in touch so we can count your contribution in our survey! Or ask me more here … @VetCompass @BritishVets @Vet_Record.
🐕 Researchers at the RVC are calling on specialist veterinary and non-university organisations that carry out research into canine health and welfare to participate in a study which seeks to inform future funding strategies. ➡️ Read more at:

My new role - which really does call on both veterinary knowledge and historian skills! “What is canine health research?”, for example: not always as straightforward to decide as it might seem… @VetHumanitiesUK.
Exciting @VetCompass project, funded by @Battersea_ @DogsTrust @KennelClubTrust @waltham_science, uses skills of vet & historian @acdalison to map past canine health research charity funding, to develop a planning strategy for effective future directions.

From our first @AnimalHistories summer meeting, I think! Delighted this has been published, as I’m living the past every day with two retro-style Siamese …

It’s a very interesting book - see also @VetHumanitiesUK.
My current book. A profoundly touching and unsettling book about veterinary education through the work of a Professor of Curriculum studies and the experiences of a cohort of vet students. Anyone in veterinary education should make this a must-read. 1/2

The crisis at the heart of the Conservative party via @spectator. I wouldn’t have expected this perspective in the Spectator, but blimey, this is right on the money.

And panel 4 ended #AHG22 with varied and interesting takes on Carpathian bees from Tanya Richardson, Mongolian horses from @monica_vasile and American coyotes from @c_the_abbott. Great conference everyone, thank you! (and I managed to avoid spelling Przewaslki there, phew 😉).

Am blown away by how this paper illustrates @WildPasts_ discussion of the historical phenomenon of animal cultures. Absolutely amazing to see this playing out in real time, thank you, @monica_vasile !.
