Life update as we wrap up #wceh2024 : this autumn I will begin doctoral work at @Cambridge_Uni in the Department of History! I could use this moment to share more about the project, but there’s time for that later. What I’d rather place here in this moment is my gratitude 1/N

An unsuspecting #wceh2024 attendee asks if I have siblings. I panic, looking, helplessly, for any indication that they, too, are an animal historian. My brother breathes heavily from his perch in my mind. It is too late. I begin to flash back to a conversation between my parents.

And lastly, hours of @awatson8381’s life have prepared me for a PhD (and all that came before). I will never be able to thank him enough. I’ll always consider you an advisor, Andrew. Thank you for giving me so much. I’ll let @Cambridge_Uni know you did the hard bit for them! 8/N.

@Moullue_Verte has shown time and time again the character not only of a kickass historian and writer, but an excellent supervisor and friend. @RUHistoryDept is lucky to count you as their peer, Jack, and so am I. ✨Go read his new writing in @EnvHistJournal!✨ 7/N.

For now I will limit individual tags to three: @JessicaMDeWitt is a pillar of the #envhist field, and without her, I never would have known about #envhist at all, much less known how to do it *well*. I am proud to consider her an advisor and friend as I enter @Cambridge_Uni. 6/N.

@NiCHE_Canada, NEAR-Eh, @ASEH_org @HKHClaire @ICEnvHist @wceh2024, and Prof. Alice Jenkins @UofGlasgow have nourished the path which led me to my PhD at @Cambridge_Uni. At their tables (physical and digital) I have gathered with the #envhist community, listened and learned 5/N.

Even when I had nothing to give in return but my genuine interest, a want to be present and to learn (and very long emails), the people who always found the time, somehow, for me and others like me made me love #envhist even more. 3/N.

Tremendously grateful to @issy_gapp, @jonopeyton, speakers and attendees — and the many behind making @wceh2024 and @ICEnvHist what they are — for a wonderful World Congress! Congratulations to my co-panelists, thank you for making #envhist a great “niche” to be in!.
Honored to present research alongside brilliant colleagues Andrew Bateman, Alicja Staniszewska, Elizabeth Walsh, @c_the_abbott, and @clarebenson as part of our @wceh2024 "Visual Cultures of Arctic Extraction" panels organized by @issy_gapp and @jonopeyton!
