Formulaic training kills motivation in singing. Find songs you love, train to warm up, and enjoy the ever-increasing beauty of your voice singing the songs you love to stay motivated.

Training your voice is a lot like going to the gym. If you put in the time, you'll get results. You need to know a little about what you should be doing there at the gym, & it's ok if you feel uncomfortable at first not knowing exactly how it all works, but showing up is 90%.

How can singing help you in your work? If your work requires speaking on the phone, in meetings, or to other people in any capacity, you could be building vocal strength, clarity, resonance and melody - all those things that make your speaking voice magnetic - by singing.

I just taught a fantastic session on breathing. If you realize that each phrase you sing is equal and opposite and FLOWS out of the work you do in 1 breath, you can see something new about singing. Focus on the breath, not the singing. Where's your next breath, next breath?

Singing also takes you out of fight or flight, but after trying these exercises I feel a lot better overall and my singing is easier and freer too!
Chronic stress spikes cortisol by up to 900%. It ages your brain, wrecks your sleep, and makes belly fat nearly impossible to lose. Everyone tries to meditate it away—but this weird biological “hack” works instead. Here’s what your body’s really begging for: 🧵

Your voice CAN grow. The larynx is controlled by muscles, and the diaphragm is a muscle too - so it's not unlike going to the gym. Improvements: vocal strength, clarity, stamina, pitch, breathing, range, resonance - start with 10 minutes of singing each day and reap the rewards!

Practicing can be tough to make time for, but your voice will thank you if you find time to warm it up, challenge it, and have some fun with it. Those 3 ingredients are important - warm up, challenge, fun, in that order, if you want an effective, addictive routine.

I had a client tell me this week that the program had completely changed her life. That her voice had been so transformed by the lessons and training and she was so happy that she'd been able to do it for an affordable $10/month was a dream come true for her.

The best of both worlds, Bel canto combines the vocal strength of the East with the beauty of Western resonance, resulting in voices strong and healthy for any genre.

It also allows singers to keep their voices all throughout the lifespan, rather than peaking out at 40 like Wagnerian opera singers who push and force wide vibrato, pitch shifts and heavy nasal resonance.

Arab, Chinese, Japanese and Indian singers all use very low nasal resonance and very forward voices in order to decrease the backpressure on the larynx, which allows for the voice to get very loud, and carry very far outdoors.

Most people think it's crazy but if you think about it, these singers had no microphone and no access to laser surgery. Vocal health was paramount for longevity of the singer.

Many of my teaching techniques, including "speaky voice" for clear adduction of the cords, emerged from this kind of training. I’ve watched so many voices blossom from it.

Of course it makes sense Maria Callas was bel canto trained. A clear, beautiful, strong and natural tone -- not pushed, forced or warbled like standard (Germanic) opera training. Bel canto is useful to develop any voice for almost any genre.🧵
