Before I log off for the night. I am a 12yr old doing my best to cover women’s sport. Sometimes I’ll miss some events.
I have been made to feel uncomfortable over the last 24hrs by repeated comments from someone on here and IG on my posts for not reporting a sport. Please stop
Hearty congratulations to Abbey at
@abbieherway
for making News Corp’s ‘Power 100’ list of influential women in Australian sport’ in today’s Insight Sport. Great recognition for your hard work, dedication, and strength + noting the future of sports journalism is in good hands💪
I have complicated feelings of an event that has done so much to elevate women, to be won by a team whose federation threatened their players when they complained about their treatment by the coach 🤷🏻♀️
If you’re unsure who to support tomorrow night in the WC Final -
England:
- Donated $580,000 gear to CC Mariners ✅
- Dua Lipa ✅
- Piers Morgan ❌
Spain:
- Refused to sack abusive coach, 15 players ended protest for WC ❌
- Paella ✅
- Bullfighting ❌
Last night 7 of my oldest friends came over to watch the game. Most of them have played football since about u7s. Cortnee Vine has come to their training several times to help out, she’s been a local.
So when someone they knew kicked that goal, they all felt like they’d won
🚨BREAKING🚨
In the grand final of my spring netball comp tonight against the top ranked team, we came back from 2 goals down at 3/4 time to tie at full time.
No extra time so we’re joint premiers!

I’m just here trying to create an encouraging atmosphere for women’s sport. I don’t know why a middle aged male politician (who doesn’t follow me) feels the need to find a tweet of mine to mock female athletes and have a bunch of men like it. Like, just keep scrolling instead?
Deleted a previous tweet as I was simply doing what I alway do… trying to elevate women’s sport and point out differences. I don’t need all the men who don’t even follow me replying to a 12 yr old with why men’s football is better and there isn’t really an M at the end of AFL 🙃
Yes, I’m only 12. But I work really really hard to promote women’s sport before, during and after it happens, because that’s what they deserve.
I won’t lie - underestimating or overlooking me is discouraging, but it only makes me want to work harder.
Still in shock. I just got to sit down with one of my idols
@CocoGauff
for 15min and interview her. Thank you for
@NewBalanceAU
for giving me the opportunity
Thanks for all the lovely comments and words of encouragement today. It’s been a huge, tiring and significant few days in many ways.
On top of it all, today I was a finalist in the NSW Women of the Year Awards for the ‘One to Watch’ category with some other incredible young women
At only 11 years old, Abbie noticed that some of the biggest names in women's sports weren't getting the attention they deserved, so she has made it her mission to change that by starting 'Her Way'.
Someone from the US posted this on the HW YouTube channel today. It kinda blew my mind. Sometimes encouragement comes when you need it most. I think I needed this encouragement today… I find it often comes from the most unlikely places.
This is HUGE for a couple of reasons.
1. Seven’s news is usually the number one show on a Saturday night
2. It was only a couple of years ago a final of women’s cricket was stuck on 7’s digital channel while a repeat of ‘Frozen’ was on the main channel

Just turned on Fox Sports news.
The AFL regular club game which had a crowd of 38,000 and the NRL one with a crowd of 18,000 were the headlines before a Matildas international football game played in Melbourne with a crowd of 50,000
If you watched the Disney Matildas documentary series, you would’ve seen Emily Gielnik nervously propose.
Well… she and her partner Temica got married the other day and some Tillies girls were there including Teagan Micah and Chloe Logarzo!

THIS is what some of us have been saying for a while. Crowds at many women’s sports are different. It’s a different demographic, it’s a different vibe, it’s a completely different experience. Sport administrators - please recognise that when you schedule games and events
Last post for tonight.
The crowd tonight obviously had lots of girls and young women. But there were so so many families with sons… I saw a boy I went to primary school with and his family and some other boys. They were groups of grown men. This tournament is really amazing
For a nation of 26mill, Australia produces a huge amount of female sports heroes.
While some are starting to get the $ and exposure they deserve, so many still work other jobs, get no media attention. Some succeed despite it. Others are up against countries that invest. Let’s go!
I’m seeing a lot of headlines saying Sam Kerr’s ACL is bad news for Chelsea/Australia. I really hope we’re all thinking about Sam the person before anything else.
Today I’ve been lucky enough to visit the brand new shiny Home of the Matildas training base in Melbourne. It’s part of an amazing complex designed FOR females BY females. Stay tuned for my video taking you behind the scenes. Even the buttons on the toilets are gold!!
I am in total shock. Aussie WNBA star
@CaylaGeorge22
organised and sent me a
@LVAces
singlet signed by the team as a 2nd birthday present for HER WAY. Thank you so much… I absolutely love it!! 🥰😭
Ok this one was surreal.
BBC News reached out to me yesterday, and I just recorded an interview for their News Channel. If you have BBC News, I’ll be on in the next hour or two
✅Ireland changing time for mass so it doesn’t clash with matches.
✅Brazil changing work hours so people can watch games.
I’m forever muting ‘noone watches women’s sport’, even when said sarcastically. We’ve know for a while people like it. We need to keep moving forward 👊
This afternoon
@Kelseyplum10
top scored for
@usabasketball
in their win over Bosnia-H. Kelsey was voted best dressed WNBA player earlier this week, so I thought I’d make her a little gift.
So… two things -
1. I’m in today’s Daily Telegraph.
2. I can now reveal that I will be FoxSports’ social media red carpet reporter chatting to the stars for the Women In Sport awards on Sunday night!!
HER WAY is 2 years old today!
Thank you to everyone who has bought a mag, merch, shared my content or encouraged me. Thanks to every club, sport, athlete who has reached out or replied to a DM, every journalist who has treated me with respect. Let’s keep elevating women in sport!
Hi, I’m Abbie! I’m 11. I decided to create an online magazine about women’s sport (for girls, but anyone can read) and it launches TOMORROW! It costs $2. 1 from each sale goes to the
@unicefaustralia
and their ‘Empower Girls Through Sport’ appeal.

@CathMurphySport
was broadcasting outside the MCG, so I went to say hi… five minutes later I was on the radio chatting live with her. It was great to meet you ☺️
Temporary mention of men’s sport to say congrats Alex de Minaur - the first male athlete I interviewed!!! Amazing win!
(This photo was taken a moment after I said he wouldn’t feature in HER WAY magazine… I think he thought I was joking)
Semi-regular reminder that there is no shame in getting your sports news/info from a 12 yr old. It’s slightly disheartening when adults (who follow me) only acknowledge something when it’s tweeted by an adult, after I’ve been posting the same info for months 🤷🏻♀️
Clare Wheeler was in the A League just 2-3 years ago, same with Mary Fowler, Courtney Nevin and Amy Sayer. Chidiac, Gorry, Hunt and van Egmond were there last season.
The moral: go and support the
@aleaguewomen
and see the next Matildas while you can before they go overseas
Tonight’s crowd of over 27K in Melbourne means this is now officially the most attended FIFA Women’s World Cup ever, overtaking the 1,353,506 of 2015 in Canada…
and there are still 11 matches to go!
A few months ago I was chatting to a Matilda. She said that while it’s amazing some of them are well paid and well resourced, it’s not the same for all of them. I say this to keep in mind when we head along to games and the expectations we have of them with their clothing/gear
Final primary school presentation day today. The weather was beautiful so we could hold it outside, and I was fortunate to receive the S Award - one of the most insignificant ones, as it recognises Service, Scholarship and Sport.
A HUGE congratulations to friend of HER WAY Sam Mostyn, announced as the next Governor-General of Australia. Sam is a trailblazer, a passionate supporter of women in sport, Indigenous Australians and those living with a disability.
I can’t think of a better choice!
Here’s my chat with cricket legend

We need to talk about Gen Gregson.
In the 3000m Steeplechase final in Tokyo, she did her Achilles and left the course in a wheelchair… on her birthday.
Last year she had a baby.
Last night she ran the 3rd fastest marathon by an Aussie, a 5min PB!
