A thread on the value of kindness. A number of years ago, my ex-partner and I moved into a new home. Our neighbours were a lovely couple in their early-30s. We weren’t close, but we had many of those random, friendly conversations that you have with your neighbours.

Is she being rude, or have you been socially conditioned into believing that women should be warm, positive and friendly at all times and are uncomfortable when they don’t adhere to that behaviour?

So the government is dropping the mask mandate (among other things) on airplanes because it's "too hard to enforce", which is quite the statement considering I haven't been allowed to bring a full-sized bottle of water through security in 16 YEARS.

In Canada, our schools have more than one door too. We have folks struggling with mental illness. We watch the same movies, listen to the same music and play the same violent video games as Americans. And since Columbine, the US had 200 school shootings. We had 3. It’s the guns.

When I'm in a business and see people walking around in masks, I don't see anyone living in fear. I see people willing to push back against a cultural shift that tries to tell them they're silly and overreacting and instead are trying to act responsibly. That's courage, not fear.

The part that chaps my ass about getting rid of mask mandates is that the main reason to keep masks is that they protect people from dying and the main reason to get rid of them is that they’re annoying and HOW IN THE WORLD ARE THOSE SEEN AS EVEN REMOTELY COMPARABLE?!

“I don’t want my tax dollars paying for someone else’s kids.” Well Bruce, I don’t want MY tax dollars paying for the roads that you used to go out and buy a computer, connect it to the internet and say something so utterly ignorant, but here we find ourselves.

First they came for Pat King, and I said nothing...because he clearly deserved it. Then they came for Tamara Lich, and I said nothing...because who didn't see that coming. And then no one came for me, because I didn't spend three weeks livestreaming myself breaking the law.

People that wear masks, got vaxxed and support health measures care about freedom too. Freedom for the immunocompromised to leave their homes. Freedom for kids too young to get their shots. Freedom for everyone to get groceries without risking illness. That freedom matters too.

Noticing a significant uptick in social media harassment towards people who are still taking some Covid precautions and it's interesting that those who profess to believe in "freedom" get awfully upset when other people exercise theirs.

We got an email from our daycare that the federal childcare grant is increasing and our fees will go down by $250/kid (about 30%) starting in January and I gotta say, living in a socialist hellscape is awfully nice some days.
