I can confirm that Prof Francesca Orsini, scholar of Hindi at SOAS, London University, has been stopped from entering India tonight even though she has a valid 5 year e-visa. She arrived from Hong Kong in Delhi and was told she would not be allowed in.

Few have shaped our understanding of Hindi and North Indian literary cultures like Francesca Orsini. To know she’s been denied entry into the country she’s written about with such love and rigour feels deeply wrong.
Francesca Orsini's scholarship has greatly enriched Hindi literary studies and history of the book in India. She is a renowned scholar published worldwide in English and in Hindi. She has just been denied entry into India, with no reason given.

From yesterday's walk curated for the students of Delhi University, tracing the history of the former L-shaped stretch of Daryaganj Sunday Book Bazaar, from Golcha Cinema to Delite Cinema, on to its present day home inside Mahila Haat. [note to self: must do this more often]

Books-Wala-Salman at the Sunday Book Bazaar. Formerly known as Comics-Wala-Salman. Now one of the few stalls to stock (old/original) Hindi pulp fiction, among others very interesting titles.

In "Old Delhi's Parallel Book Bazaar," the author @aampannaa, in her introduction, describes the Daryaganj Sunday Book Market as "a site of resilience and possibilities," and frankly I haven't heard a better description of any book selling space.
