Absolutely thrilled to share @aaiweiner's thesis work from my lab, out now in @CellReports! In short, loss of the transcription factor p63 increases the ability of basal cells to transdifferentiate into alveolar cells. (1/2)

Weiner et al. find that ΔNp63 is required for dysplastic remodeling of the distal lung after severe pulmonary injuries. Without ΔNp63, the basal-like cells responsible for this remodeling either...

Excited to share our preprint on microstructured hydrogels for lung alveolar organoids. Great collaboration with @vaughandy @WestPhillyTough @BurdickLab & Ed Morrisey to characterize Matrigel-free iPSC and primary alveolar organoids in vitro & in vivo, 1/2 https://t.co/oBgveY2SN1

A perspective on how miserable the US has managed COVID: My visiting scholar @zhao_gan is defending his thesis remotely for his home university in Wuhan. The other defendees in Wuhan are hanging out in a room with 8-10 people, eating food. It’s clearly under control there.

We are sad to announce the passing of our dear colleague and former IRM Director John Gearhart. John's groundbreaking isolation of human pluripotent stem cells and relentless advocacy for stem cell research funding made him one of the best champions our field could ever have.

FWIW, I was briefly on local news today talking a little about COVID-19 and some of the work we're starting... very glitchy but anyway
