Much has been said about @jennfrey’s achievements at UTulsa—the program she’s built, record fundraising, an enrolment boom—but when we visited Tulsa I was stunned to find a Dean who treated the intellectual and ethical growth of every individual student as her highest priority.

Now for some personal news: today is my last day as Dean. I was stunned to be informed by our new provost there will no longer be a Dean of Honors, period. Nor an Assistant Dean. Rather, I was told there will be a “director” of honors--but that person will not be me. (12/21).

Join us tomorrow, when I will argue that no purported benefit of AI in universities is worth the cost: rendering students subcognitive.

I had the pleasure of speaking with @a_n_a_berg & @rachelcwiseman about their book, “What Are Children For?” It really is a fascinating conversation regardless of where you stand on questions of natalism, faith, or philosophy. Highly recommended! ⬇️👶.

The homepage for Open AI/GPT mentions four possible uses: TWO of those are "write an academic essay." The next page features just one: "a 1000 word essay.". AI depriving out students of the opportunity to read, think and write is not an unintended consequence, it's the product.

To @freganmitts's brilliant and, unfortunately, all too rare warning against the illiteracy AI will usher in, I'd only add: it will not be distributed equally. Academics already sheepishly mutually assure one another how sparing their *own* children will pay off dividends. .
