Finding consensus across so many perspectives & positions was and remains an exciting challenge. It's just the tip of the iceberg and we hope it fosters generative discussion on the real harms of generative AI, the perils of agentifying AI, & the role of industry in shaping AI.

New possibilities for photorealistic synthetic media may undermine trust in authentically captured media through the “liar’s dividend” and prompts research into the role of platform interventions like tracking source provenance and detecting synthetic media downstream.

Generative AI tools may accelerate the creative process through rapid ideation. But this acceleration may also undermine aspects of creativity by removing the initial period of experimentation associated with a blank page. In either case, production time & costs will likely fall.

We argue that copyright law must balance benefits to creators, users, and society. Copyright laws likely will not adequately apportion ownership rights to artists whose work these systems are trained on, but may favor the end-user. We need new mechanisms to protect artists.
